Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic

History

The Antarctic appeared in 1950 as the brand’s first waterproof automatic watch. Since then, it gained recognition for its sturdy and versatile character. The American Navy’s Deep Freeze 1 crew wore it during their expedition to the South Pole from 1955 to 1956.

Features

Currently, the Antarctic collection has 5 different series. Its 35mm variant is a simple time-only watch with a neat dial featuring an amalgamation of index markers and Arabic numerals. From a more vintage perspective, the Antarctic Diver borrows most of its design from the '60s original model. The Antarctic diver is also offered with a date window iteration. The Antarctic Spider features a spider web motif on the dial and a date window at the 3 o’clock marker. Another simple set of timepieces under the collection is the Super Antarctic series. The Super Antarctic is available with either index markers or a mix of both index and Arabic numerals.

Keep Frozen

Made in conjunction with a French artist named Romaric Andre, aka, Second/second, Nivada approached him after the successful reception of the first collaboration on Dephmas-ter. In a bid to move away from the usual storyline of the Antarctic collection, Andre fitted a snowflake in the middle of the dial. This snowflake offers a rather laid-back personality to the Antarctic.
