Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph 44mm

History

The Maurice Lacroix Aikon collection is a reiteration of the Calypso collection that was introduced by the brand in the 1980s. The Calypso collection was the mainstay of the brand for almost a decade apart from the Masterpiece collection. In 2010, Maurice Lacroix decided to revive the collection under the name of “Aikon”.

Design

One feature that this collection is instilled with and carries the legacy of the Calypso line is the six-arm bezel. The collection is available in a wide variety of dial sizes ranging from 35mm to 45mm. Whereas, inside the Aikon Automatic Chronograph series the chronographs are fitted at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock markers except for the skeletonised version. One timepiece inside the Aikon Automatic collection is the Mahindra Racing special edition. The brightly coloured dial is complemented with a robust hexagonal case and provides the timepiece with a sporty appearance. The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz is equipped with features such as Chronograph and Date. Available in three different dial sizes, the Aikon Quartz collection is for both men and women. For women, the Aikon Quartz is available in a 35mm case and is also home to a variant with a mother-of-pearl dial. Whereas, inside the Aikon Quartz Chronograph series, the chronographs are fitted at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock markers.

Aikon #tide

The Maurice Lacroix AIKON #tide collection is made with a compound made with ocean-bound upcycled plastic in collaboration with Tide Ocean SA. Tide Ocean is a Basel-based firm that specialises in upcycling Ocean plastic. PET, also commonly known as Plastic is highly recyclable but affects the marine environment to a great extent. So, to limit its carbon footprint on the environment, Maurice Lacroix decided to produce its AIKON #tide with recycled plastic. The bezel, case back, crown, and buckle are made with a compound of upcycled plastic and glass fibre. The dichotomy between fresh produced PET and the compound with which the AIKON #tide is made is that the compound is twice as hard and five times more resistant as compared to virgin PET. It takes 17 bottles to make one AIKON #tide and the carbon footprint is significantly low for the same. The brand has committed that it will remove 10 million plastic bottles and help the marine environment with a cleaner approach.
