About the L.U. Chopard L.U.C Collection
Chopard are among the few independent, family-owned maisons with expertise spanning jewellery and haute horlogerie. Within their watchmaking portfolio, the L.U.C collection represents their most ambitious expression of mechanical craftsmanship, combining in-house movement development, traditional finishing and high complications. Introduced in 1997, L.U.C was created as a tribute to Louis-Ulysse Chopard and marked an important chapter in the manufacture's modern watchmaking. The collection debuted with the L.U.C 1860, powered by calibre 1.96, a self-winding movement distinguished by its micro-rotor, twin barrels and chronometer-certified precision. More importantly, it established the principles that continue to define L.U.C: technical substance, classical proportions and a focus on finishing.
A Collection Defined By Mechanical Expertise
Over the years, Chopard have expanded L.U.C into one of their most technically diverse collections. The range includes refined time-only watches, chronographs, perpetual calendars, tourbillons and striking mechanisms, demonstrating the breadth of expertise developed across their workshops in Fleurier and Geneva. The L.U.C XP represents the collection's restrained side, with slim cases and clean, traditionally inspired designs. The L.U.C Quattro, meanwhile, demonstrates Chopard's expertise in power-reserve technology, using four barrels to provide up to eight days of autonomy. At the highest level of complication, watches such as the L.U.C Full Strike demonstrate their approach to acoustic watchmaking, using sapphire crystal gongs to produce a clear and distinctive sound.
Crafted Within The Manufacture
What distinguishes the Chopard L.U.C collection is the degree of control behind each watch. Their workshops oversee movement development, production, assembly and finishing, allowing the maison to combine industrial precision with traditional decorative techniques. Depending on the model, movements may feature hand-finished bevels, Côtes de Genève, circular graining or Fleurisanne engraving. Selected L.U.C watches also meet demanding standards including COSC chronometer certification and the Poinçon de Genève.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
At the heart of the L.U.C Quattro is the hand-wound L.U.C 98.09-L, a COSC-certified manufacture calibre distinguished by Chopard’s proprietary Quattro technology. Four barrels, arranged as two sets of stacked pairs, contain a remarkable 1.885 metres of mainspring, delivering an exceptional power reserve of approximately 216 hours, or nine days. Measuring just 3.75mm thick, the movement combines this extended autonomy with hours, minutes, small seconds, a date display and a power-reserve indicator, along with a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time-setting. Comprising 215 components and 38 jewels, the movement operates at 4Hz and bears the prestigious Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark alongside its COSC chronometer certification. The calibre is equipped with a Phillips terminl curve balance spring and three-spoke balance wheel, while its bridges feature Côtes de Genève and the mainplate is circular-grained. In this version, the power-reserve indication has also been repositioned onto a movement bridge, marking a technical evolution of the L.U.C 98.01-L.
