About the Junghans 1972 Collection

History

In 1972, Junghans was the official timekeeper for the Summer Olympics in Munich. This event saw the creation of sports watches under the Junghans tag. Now, the Junghans 1972 is heavily inspired by the watches made in that era.

Features

With a particularly prominent approach towards German minimalism, Junghans took an unexpected turn towards sports watches produced in the 1970s. The Junghans 1972 can almost be classified as a diver’s watch because of its rotating bezel but the definitions such as the chunky dials and tangerine trims remind one of the 70s era sports watches. The Junghans 1972 is equipped with a tachymeter, paying heed to its sports origins. Whereas, the pencil hands are fitted with Super-LumiNova for better readability. The thick pushers are fitted on both sides of the crown. In the Chronoscope series, the crown is fitted on the right side of the dial. Whereas, with the Competition series the pushers and the crown are fitted on top of the dial.

Design & Essence

The Junghans 1972 collection is the perfect sports watch for everyday use. With a keen emphasis on merging mechanical innovation with the sturdiness of a sports watch, the 1972 collection is a wave of nostalgia. Many movements inside the collection take their derivation from their Japanese counterparts. This amalgamation of methodology from various streams of the watchmaking world makes the Junghans 1972 a collection of watches that stands with tradition, heritage and innovation. Also, the 1972 Chronoscope Solar, a timepiece powered by the Sun makes an unexpected approach inside the collection.
