About the Edox North Sea Collection
Essence
Edox is a brand that has kept its tradition of crafting marine-oriented timepieces alive for decades. With the Edox North Sea collection, the brand decided to amalgamate tradition and legacy together. The watches under this collection are tributes and are more of a storyteller as compared to a timekeeper.
1967
Bronze is like wine, it gets better with age. To honour the Delfin, Edox launched the North Sea 1967 Date Automatic. Delfin was the first diving watch by Edox and one of the first watches that offered a water resistance of 500 meters. To honour the crown jewel of the brand, Edox launched this reinterpretation in a bronze case. 1967 features a similar design to the original Delfin and features a date window at the 3 o’clock marker. On the case back, the watch is engraved with the logo of North Sea Divers. North Sea Divers were a group of divers who specialised in saturation diving and were famous during the 1960 and 70s.
1978
Dubbed the “Inverse Moon Landing” by Edox, the North Sea 1978 pays tribute to a harrowing 320M dive in the cold waters just off the coast of Skånevik in Norway. This was an especially dangerous dive in which one of the men lost his life, making for a harrowing tale. This dive is particularly covered in the documentary called “The Deepest Dive”. What makes it more interesting is that the divers were wearing Edox watches.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Marking a rare instance in Edox, the Edox 80 is an automatic mechanical movement. Based on the Sellita SW200 movement, the Edox 80 is as reliable as its parent movement. Powering the legendary Sky Diver and Neptunian, the Edox 80 provides a power reserve of approximately 38 hours while vibrating at 28,800 vph.
