About the Czapek Quai Des Bergues Collection
The Czapek Quai des Bergues collection stands as a tribute to the legacy of François Czapek, a pioneering watchmaker who founded Czapek & Cie in 1845 after parting ways with his former partner, Antoni Patek. This collection, launched in 2011, marked the revival of the brand, with the name “Quai des Bergues” referencing the location of Czapek’s original workshop. Known for its refined craftsmanship and classical aesthetics, the collection has received numerous accolades since its introduction, establishing the brand as a symbol of traditional Swiss watchmaking excellence.
Design And Craftsmanship
Since its reintroduction, the Quai des Bergues collection has evolved through various iterations, each offering unique design elements while maintaining the collection’s signature aesthetic. These include models such as the Blue Aurora, Aurora Borealis, and Guilloché Ricochet, showcasing vibrant dials created through galvanic and lacquer techniques. The collection also includes the Lady series with its diamond-studded mother-of-pearl dial. The design of these timepieces is the modern reinterpretation of Czapek’s 19th-century creations, blending historical elements with contemporary craftsmanship. The collection is characterised by its elegant dial designs, often adorned with the guilloché pattern, inspired by an original motif created by François Czapek in the 1850s. This intricate pattern, with its dual focal points, creates a dynamic, ripple-like effect, reminiscent of a stone skipping across water. The dials are further accentuated by unique Fleur de Lys or blued steel hands, small seconds between seven and eight o'clock, and a power reserve indicator, which also serves as a day indicator.
The heart of the collection is the SXH1 calibre, a manually-wound movement developed in collaboration with Chronode. This movement, with its dual barrel system, ensures an impressive seven-day power reserve, highlighting the technical prowess behind each timepiece. The Quai des Bergues exemplifies Czapek’s ability to merge heritage with innovation, resulting in watches that are both visually striking and mechanically sophisticated.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The first movement created by Czapek after its revival, the SXH1 is inspired by the movement made by Franciszek Czapek himself. The calibre is a remarkable haute horlogerie mechanical movement, meticulously crafted and Swiss-made. This manually-wound calibre features 31 jewels and operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), ensuring precise timekeeping. With a power reserve exceeding 168 hours (seven days) from its two-barrel springs, it offers exceptional longevity. The 32mm diameter and 4.75mm height house beautifully finished components, including sandblasted bridges, heat-blued screws, and intricate bevelling. Developed in collaboration with Chronode, the movement remains true to its 1850 origins while showcasing modern aesthetics, including partially open-worked bridges and double-open ratchets.
