About the Chronoswiss Open Gear Collection
The Chronoswiss Open Gear collection is a colourful tribute to the brand's distinct watchmaking style. It brings the celebrated regulator-watch trope in confluence with other elements that have now become recognisable Chronoswiss signatures over the years. It includes mesmerising patterns to adorn the dial surface and the unique representation of retrograde seconds that first appeared on an Open Gear ReSec watch. The display of movement's open gears is where this collection comes on its own, featuring no less than four visible gears in most timepieces. The current line-up is loaded with iterations of Flying Regulator Open Gear and Open Gear ReSec.
Features
The Chronoswiss Open Gear features its regulator complication in a fresh and innovative manner. The typically concealed gears are exposed, adding a striking visual depth to the timepiece. The hour display at noon is connected with the central minute wheel. These components rotate beneath two angular bridges secured with screws. For added visual appeal, Chronoswiss have equipped these bridges with large jewels. The Flying Regulator Open Gear watches feature a secondary small seconds dial placed at the six o'clock position, where it unveils more gearwork through a cut-out, enhancing the overall aesthetic complexity. On the other hand, a retrograde 30-second display covers the lower half of the dial in the Open Gear ReSec watches.
Aesthetics
A vibrant colour scheme defines the Chronoswiss Open Gear watches. Their dials are intricately preened, blending characteristic guilloche patterns with bright, captivating hues to create a distinctive design. The Kingfisher, Aurora, Candy Shop, Tiger, and Paraiba models stand out with dials that steal the spotlight, thanks to CVD coating on the hand-guilloched base. The magic of colour extends beyond the dial to the case, with many timepieces featuring CVD-coated cases that match the dial hues.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear watches are powered by the self-winding movement, C.299. This calibre is based on a heavily modified ETA 2895, featuring a regulator mechanism that is fully developed and designed in-house by Chronoswiss at their atelier in Lucerne, Switzerland. The movement includes an open-worked rotor and circular grained bridges. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, has 31 jewels, and offers a power reserve of up to 42 hours.
