About the BVLGARI Serpenti Collection
Background
The relationship between humans and snakes is both pragmatic and enigmatic. Be it through years of mythology shaping our minds or understanding more about nature, it has been vilified by a mutual sense of respect. The founder of BVLGARI, Sotirios Boulgaris was particularly fond of serpents. As a matter of fact, the BVLGARI Serpenti collection was actually designed by Sotirios during the 1940s. The idea behind creating Serpenti was to create a piece of jewellery that would require fewer precious stones as they became scarce during the Second World War. This led to the introduction of the Tubogas technology into BVLGARI. It was during the 1960s that Serpenti gained worldwide recognition when Elizabeth Taylor wore it on the sets of the movie, Cleopatra.
Features
Manufactured in the shape of a snake, the Serpenti displays the time inside the snake’s head. This circular triangle is further complemented by either a long tubogas bracelet or a leather strap. One cannot have a BVLGARI, especially a Serpenti without diamonds. A few of the timepieces in the collection are fixed with diamond-studded bezels and it also features a full-pave variant. The Serpenti is available in various materials such as white gold, rose gold, steel, and ceramic.
High-Jewellery
Continuing the tradition of being a piece of jewellery, the Serpenti collection also features various high jewellery watches. Watches such as Serpenti Secret and Serpenti Seduttori feature gems such as onyx, emeralds, and diamonds. For the Cleopatra of the modern world, BVLGARI also makes a cuff bracelet inside the Serpenti collection. Called the Serpenti Misteriosi Romani to watch, the timepiece features a cuff bracelet and a serpent wrapped over it. These timepieces are inspired by the manchettes worn by the gladiators.
The Incantati
Italian for ‘enchanting snakes’, the limited edition Serpenti Incantati Limited Edition is a timepiece that has stood out from the original design of the Serpenti but retained its values. The timepiece beautifully represents time over a skeletonised dial. The skeletonised dial is further accentuated by a tourbillon at 6 o’clock. Capturing the essence of the Serpenti, a diamond-studded serpent is coiled around the case. This sensuous set of timepieces is limited to just 30 units and can be availed with a special engraving.
