Being one of the first brands to introduce aviation-inclined watches, Oris has a long-drawn tradition of crafting these timepieces. It wasn’t until 1938 that Oris introduced the first Big Crown. Even today, the brand has kept the Oris Big Crown collection alive whilst taking numerous ideas from the original timepiece.
The cases of watches from the Big Crown are constructed from stainless steel, with PVD coating in certain models. The most distinguishing feature of this line lies in its fluted bezel, which instantly adds a layer of ruggedness to the watches. The masculine appeal of these watches is enhanced by the bold Arabic numeral time markers and oversized hands that in some versions come with intricate carvings and luminescence filling. The feature that gives the collection its name, the big crown, is aptly emphasized in every piece, with fluted edges resembling the bezel. The dial is available in shades of black and white and is guilloche worked in some instances. Strap options include leather and textile.
Inside the Oris Big Crown collection, there are a few limited edition timepieces such as the Big Crown Roberto Clemente limited edition, the Big Crown Pointer Date 80th Anniversary edition, and the Big Crown Holstein edition 2021. The Big Crown Roberto Clemente limited edition pays a tribute to the legendary Puerto Rican Baseball player, Roberto Clemente and is only limited to 3,000 units. In 2018, Oris launched the Big Crown Pointer Date 80th Anniversary edition celebrating 80 years of the first Big Crown. Another timepiece celebrating 117 years of Oris is the Big Crown Holstein edition 2021. This timepiece is engraved with Oris’s mascot, a bear, on the case back.
The Oris Big Crown collection is equipped with the automatic Oris 754 movement. Based on the Sellita SW 200-1, the Oris 754 offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. Whereas, inside the Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403 is equipped with the Oris 403 offering a power reserve of approximately 120 hours and vibrates at 28,800 vph.
