Retro, Winning Charm: Raymond Weil's Millesime—A Tribute To Understated Elegance
Laurent Ferrier's Square collection, unveiled in 2015, masterfully blends traditional and contemporary aesthetics which underscores their commitment to timeless elegance. Despite having won a GPHG award in their very first year of inception cementing their standing in the watchmaking industry, Laurent Ferrier didn't rest on their laurels. They went on to achieve further recognition by winning another award in 2015. Their triumph in the "Horological Revelation" category at the 2015 GPHG with their Square Micro-Rotor watch demonstrated that their initial success was not their peak.
Features
The Square collection honours the elegant DNA of the brand with its understated and well-executed timepieces. This watch's most notable feature is its charming cushion shape, which is also the inspiration behind the name. It's interesting to note that the name is square, yet the actual shape of the watch is a cushion, with soft and smooth lines that are more comfortable on the wrist compared to a structured square. The collection also stands out with its subtle and earthy colourways on the dial, enhancing the overall appeal. Each watch features a tone-on-tone small-second counter at six o’clock, providing a balanced and symmetrical aesthetic. Additionally, the collection is distinguished by a signature bulbous crown on the right, offering both functionality and a unique design touch.
Mechanism
With Laurent Ferrier, the meticulously crafted mechanism cannot be ‘not’ mentioned. The mechanism that supports these boxy beauties is the automatic calibre FBN229.01, featuring their signature pawl-fitted micro-rotor between the main plate and the bridge. The smooth movement of 186 components is facilitated by 35 jewels. This mechanism provides the watches with a running autonomy of 72 hours and boasts a silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance along with a silent block shock protection system for the micro-rotor.
