The Jacob & Co. Caligula collection, named after the 1979 erotic film, carries forward the centuries-old tradition of incorporating erotica into watchmaking. These watches, originally popular among Europe's elite, were known for their hidden risqué scenes that combined artistry and mechanics. The Caligula collection, limited to just 69 pieces, revives this historical practice with modern precision and creativity, offering a striking combination of refinement and playful audacity that matches the bold spirit of Jacob & Co.
Design And Features
The Caligula watches are distinguished from Jacob & Co.'s usual colourful and gem-encrusted timepieces by their beautiful and classical style. The watch exudes a polished and elegant look with a guilloché display and a stainless steel case. The conventional design is given a fascinating touch by the concealed sensual scene that is unveiled through a supplementary crown at the four o'clock position. The grey dial and leather band further enhance its subtle elegance, making it suitable for formal and casual occasions.
Powered by the robust JCAA07 automatic movement, the Caligula watch offers a 48-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is responsible for both timekeeping and animating the erotic scene, which is crafted by miniaturist Andre Martinez using the cold enamel technique. This intricate detail and animation are set within a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, ensuring durability. With a water resistance of 30 metres, the watch balances luxury and functionality. The Caligula Tourbillon Baguette elevates the collection with a flying tourbillon at 12 o’clock. Baguette-cut diamonds adorn the dial and case, showcasing Jacob & Co.'s watchmaking and jewellery expertise. The dual-crown mechanism discreetly reveals or hides the sensual scene, adding a personalised touch.
