Erotic Watches

For centuries, the world of watchmaking featured erotica on its dial. Erotica on the dial of a watch was particularly for the elites of the society as these kinds of timepieces were made on commissions. These watches concealed the erotic part of the dial but it was much more open in French society until the revolution toppled the french monarchy. To this day, the fine line between erotic art and sordid representation of sexuality is maintained by various watchmakers. One of them is Jacob & Co. Named after the 1979 erotic movie, Caligula, the Jacob & Co. Caligula collection is just limited to 69 pieces.

The Sensational Caligula

Carrying the tradition of erotic watches, the Caligula collection features a complacent dial unlike most of the timepieces by Jacob & Co. With a guilloche dial, the erotic window is opened by a second crown at the 4 o’clock marker. Once the actual scene is revealed, one can wind the secondary crown and make the scene alive. The erotic art is crafted by a miniaturist from LeLocle, Andre Martinez. The animation is detailed to perfection with the use of the cold enamel technique. If the erotica is not enough, the Caligula collection is available with a diamond-studded variant called the Caligula Pave. Adding complexities, the Caligula Tourbillon Baguette features a flying tourbillon at the 12 o’clock marker and baguette-cut diamonds on the dial and case.

The Movement

The Caligula is powered by an automatic called the JCAA01. This movement offers a power reserve of up to 48 hours and beats at 28,800 bhp. This movement powers both the animation and the timekeeping duties. The stainless steel variant is equipped with the JCAA07 movement, whereas, the Caligula Tourbillon Baguette is fixed with the JCAM08 in-house movement.
