Backdrop
Ikepod, with its eccentric designs and collaborations, created an ecosystem of independent watchmakers that were more focused on the aesthetical aspect of watchmaking. Since its advent, Ikepod has strived to bring in designers from various aspects of life. With the Ikepod Skypod collection, Claesson Koivisto Rune studio, based in Stockholm took up the duty of designing the dial.
Features
The Skypod takes most of its inspiration from the Megapode Chronograph produced during the 90s. Retaining the smooth finish and a similar dial setup, the Skypod is equipped with a 46mm case. The case might look big but with the absence of lugs, fits perfectly on the wrist. The Skypod displays a small seconds dial at 3 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 6 o’clock, and a 24-hour scale at the 9 o’clock marker which acts as a second-time zone display. These sub-dials are further complimented by a date window, fixed between 7 and 8 o’clock. In addition to these features, the Skypod also features a sliding ruler.
Movement
Considered a resto-mod, the movements inside the Skypod were new-old-stock movements that were once used inside the Megapode Chronograph. Known as LJP 8103, these movements are based on the Valjoux 7750. Fully serviced, these movements provide a power reserve of approximately 40 hours while vibrating at 28,800 vph.
