The Ikepod Skypod collection continues the brand’s tradition of merging avant-garde design with technical precision, offering a timepiece that stands out both visually and functionally. Inspired by the iconic Megapode Chronograph from the 1990s, the Skypod pays homage to its predecessor while bringing modern refinements that align with contemporary expectations. Ikepod, known for their unconventional approach to watchmaking, has once again partnered with the renowned Claesson Koivisto Rune studio, giving the Skypod a distinct, minimalist aesthetic that reflects the design ethos of its creators.
Design And Features
The collection showcases Ikepod’s signature case design, offering a smooth, lug-free appearance that ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist despite its large 46mm diameter. This streamlined design is characteristic of the brand’s minimalist approach, where function and form are harmoniously balanced. The Skypod’s dial is a study in simplicity and clarity, with sub-dials strategically placed for optimal legibility. The small seconds dial sits at three o'clock, while the 30-minute counter is positioned at six o'clock, and the 24-hour scale occupies the nine o'clock position. This final sub-dial serves as a second time zone, adding a practical feature for frequent travellers. Additionally, a discreet date window is nestled between seven and eight o’clock, maintaining the sleek aesthetic without sacrificing functionality.
One of the collection’s standout features is its sliding ruler, a nod to vintage timepieces that balances both form and function. Limited to 25 pieces per colour, the Skypod is a collector’s dream. Each model is powered by a La Joux-Perret LJP 8103 movement, which has been refurbished from the Megapode’s original Valjoux 7750 base. Known for its reliability, this automatic movement offers a 40-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This blend of vintage and modern engineering exemplifies Ikepod’s philosophy of respecting heritage while embracing innovation.
