A limited edition self-winding chronometer was launched by Omega in 1948 to celebrate its 100th anniversary. This iconic timepiece proved to be the progenitor for the Constellation family of timepieces that the brand launched in 1952, after it broke its own record of precision and reliability in 1951. The symbol of the line became the Cupola of the Geneva Observatory where the brand had reset its own record.
An icon of technical innovation and aesthetic richness, the Constellation Quartz 27 mm 184.108.40.206.55.009 model is crafted exclusively to appeal to the 21st century woman. Featuring an evergreen design with a touch of modernity, this timepiece is presented on a two toned bracelet with alternating links of brushed stainless steel and 18 k red gold. The 27 mm stainless steel case body contains a white mother-of-pearl dial, which has been decorated with a random pattern of the Omega logo. 12 hour markers in the form of sparkling round diamonds have been embellished in red gold holders to lend the watch an opulent look. The bezel adds an aesthetic value to the timepiece since it is adorned with 28 diamonds, which have been handpicked by the workers on the basis of the 4 Cs of quality-cut, carat, colour and clarity. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal serves as the face of the watch and protects the unique dial. Owing to the treatment, time is readable even on the brightest of days as the watch is completely glare-proof.
At the heart of this watch lies the Omega 1376 caliber. A precision quartz movement, the mechanism of the watch has been coated with rhodium for an exceptional finish and to ensure reduced friction. Being water resistant to a depth of 100 metres, the watch can even be worn during activities like swimming and snorkelling without getting damaged. An impressive power reserve of 48 months ensures that the watch does not require frequent battery changes.
The Constellation Collection by Omega was launched in 1952, has since been renowned for its ultra precise movements and elegantly refined cases. Century, a limited edition wristwatch unveiled in 1948 on the firm’s 100th anniversary, is the progenitor of the collection. Due to the overwhelming response received by this watch, the brand launched the Constellation collection, which imbibed the same qualities. In 1982, the Constellation “Manhattan” was launched, with which the four claws or “griffes” were introduced that keeps the sapphire crystal case intact to securely render the watch waterproof.
The Omega Constellation collection has been exemplified in several sub collections that include the Gents’ Collection, Ladies’ Collection, Orbis Constellation Star, Sedna, and the Luxury Edition. The watches in the Gents’ collection feature distinctive design factors – the renowned claws on the case, horizontal links for utmost comfort, and a Constellation star, which is situated at the 6o’ clock position. Featuring a vast range of watches with different sizes, metals, dials, and diamond options to choose from, the Ladies’ Collection contains at least one watch to suit every wrist. The Orbis Constellation Star supports Orbis International – which gives advanced eye care to some of the most inaccessible regions in the world, and it’s Flying Eye Hospital. An 18-carat rose gold alloy, consisting of copper, palladium, and at least 75% gold, has been used to craft the Constellation Sedna. This breathtaking alloy adds an innovative and stunning appeal to the watch, giving it a long lasting rose-coloured hue. The magnificent Omega Constellation Luxury Edition watches showcase multitude of diamonds in spectacular supernova pattern, which dazzles the eyes of the onlooker.
A gold Omega Constellation “Manhattan” was worn by the former president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev. One of the 20th century’s most popular musicians, cultural icon, actor, and American singer, Elvis Presley had worn a black-dialled Constellation Calendar.
