The Constellation Manhattan was launched by Omega in 1982, introducing the world to the griffes or claws placed on the outer ring of timepieces to keep them water resistant. When Omega re-launched the collection in 2009 with compelling new models to attract a new range of watch enthusiasts, it decided to retain the claw feature for the aesthetic value it provided to the time implements.
The uniqueness of the 184.108.40.206.58.001 model is owing to a blend of aesthetic richness and technical innovations. Crafted out of stainless steel and 18 k yellow gold, the timepiece is a classic with a touch of modernity. Sleek in its built the case body has a diameter of 27 mm to complement the slender wrists of women.
Exclusively crafted for the 21st century woman, fond of appearance as well as technology, the timepiece caters to a new generation of Constellation wearers. The four trademark claws are still found on the outer ring of the watch with Roman numerals engraved on the yellow gold bezel. A champagne dial has been decorated with supernova pattern to lend a dramatic effect to the timepiece. 12 round diamonds are contained in 18 k yellow gold holders and used as hour markers to make the timepiece appear opulent. Two toned dauphine hour and minute hands lend the watch a unique sophistication and feminine charm. The face of the watch is a domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal, which has been coated with anti-reflective treatment on the inside to eliminate glare.
At the heart of the 220.127.116.11.58.001 model lies the Omega 1376 caliber, a quartz precision movement. Exceptional in finish, the movement has been coated with rhodium plating to work under reduced friction conditions. The timepiece boasts of an impressive battery life of 48 months and is water resistant to a depth of 100 metres, so that it does not get adversely affected even when worn during activities like snorkelling and swimming.
The Constellation Collection by Omega was launched in 1952, has since been renowned for its ultra precise movements and elegantly refined cases. Century, a limited edition wristwatch unveiled in 1948 on the firm’s 100th anniversary, is the progenitor of the collection. Due to the overwhelming response received by this watch, the brand launched the Constellation collection, which imbibed the same qualities. In 1982, the Constellation “Manhattan” was launched, with which the four claws or “griffes” were introduced that keeps the sapphire crystal case intact to securely render the watch waterproof.
The Omega Constellation collection has been exemplified in several sub collections that include the Gents’ Collection, Ladies’ Collection, Orbis Constellation Star, Sedna, and the Luxury Edition. The watches in the Gents’ collection feature distinctive design factors – the renowned claws on the case, horizontal links for utmost comfort, and a Constellation star, which is situated at the 6o’ clock position. Featuring a vast range of watches with different sizes, metals, dials, and diamond options to choose from, the Ladies’ Collection contains at least one watch to suit every wrist. The Orbis Constellation Star supports Orbis International – which gives advanced eye care to some of the most inaccessible regions in the world, and it’s Flying Eye Hospital. An 18-carat rose gold alloy, consisting of copper, palladium, and at least 75% gold, has been used to craft the Constellation Sedna. This breathtaking alloy adds an innovative and stunning appeal to the watch, giving it a long lasting rose-coloured hue. The magnificent Omega Constellation Luxury Edition watches showcase multitude of diamonds in spectacular supernova pattern, which dazzles the eyes of the onlooker.
A gold Omega Constellation “Manhattan” was worn by the former president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev. One of the 20th century’s most popular musicians, cultural icon, actor, and American singer, Elvis Presley had worn a black-dialled Constellation Calendar.
