Glashütte watchmaker Nomos have launched not one, five or seven, but 31 watches under their most popular collection, Tangente, at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024. Titled Nomos Tangente 38 Date, each dial is a refreshing cocktail mashing two or three vivid hues and successfully upend the largely Nomos monochromatic dials as noticed in previous lineups. Inspired by the 31 days of the month, each version of the Tangente 38 Date is a subtle play of contrasting hue combinations and has a personality of their own.
A Nod To 175th Years Of Nomos: Tangente 38
Incepted in 1992, the Tangente has been the brand’s bestseller for over 30 years and is credited for inspiring the younger Nomos Tangomat and Ahoi collections. The new Nomos Tangente 38 Date also picks classic traits from the Tangente Rose Gold Neomatik launched in 2023 to mark Nomos’ 175th anniversary in watchmaking. Just like the special edition Neomatik, each one of the 31 Tangente 38 versions is limited to 175 pieces. Even the outer minute track is highlighted in the Tangente 38 Date with a contrasting hue as in the Neomatik. As in the previous iterations, the distinct Bauhaus typography shows through the contrasting hour markers alternating between indices and Arabic numerals two, four, eight, 10 and 12 o’clock. Moreover, as hinted in the collection title, the case measures 38mm, and seven mm in thickness.
A Total Of 31 Vivid, Inviting And Cool Hues
What instantly stands out about the new Tangente Date 38 are the different iteration names and complementary colour combinations with gender-neutral aesthetic. The Tangente Sportburnt—a light red dial timepiece with sub-seconds dial in dark red, cream indices, golden yellow outer ring, and turquoise minute ring—reminiscent of iconic Olympic rings; the Tangente Datum Pompadour serenades with its antique pink dial, encircled by a dark gold ring and featured royal blue typography; the monotone Tangente 38 Datum Poporange hints at the 1970s fashion tones and fiery orange rising sun; the sharp pink-toned Tangente Datum Chili oozes fashion and glamour; the Tangente Datum Delfin in blue, grey and beige tones according to the brand can be reimagined as inflatable dolphins floating on crystal clear pools; and the Tangente Schlossgrün reminds of ivy on walled gardens.
The Tangente 38 Date is powered by the Nomos date movement DUW 4101, visible at the caseback along with the engraved name of the watch and the limited-edition number. This hand-wound calibre, constructed in-house, is inbuilt with the Nomos swing system. As the date ring encircles the calibre, the large date aperture is located at the six o’clock edge of the dial. Even though this design layout puts the coaxial, small seconds sub-dial and the date window one below the other, the dial doesn’t appear crowded given the clean, slim aesthetic. The background of the date window, for instance, matches the dial colour. Securing the watch is the dark grey woven textile strap.
