SpotlightGerman Watch Brands MeisterSinger and Junghans Launch Impressive Watches At Baselworld 2018

Known for their bold and beautiful timepieces, MeisterSinger and Junghans are making a grand statement with their 2018 novelties and giving the bigwigs of the watchmaking world a reason to worry

The German ‘wunder’ watch brand MeisterSinger has snowballed into Baselworld 2018 matching the frigid Swiss temperature. The 2018 novelties from the brand are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, specially designed for those who want to solely keep a track of time which, is made possible by the ‘single’ timekeeping hand.

While the fair is buzzing with activity, MeisterSinger has single handily commanded the attention of all watch enthusiasts with the launch of its timepieces under four new collections, viz- The MeisterSinger Black Line, MeisterSinger Lunascope, MeisterSinger Metris and MeisterSinger Urban. But what is really impressive is the fact that the brand has focused on diversity and no two watches look alike and though all look equally exuberant the former two (MeisterSinger Black Line, MeisterSinger Lunascope) stood out in particular.

MeisterSinger Black Line

This timepiece explains why ‘dark matter’, matters. The four timepieces in the MeisterSinger classic collection- No.03 Black Line, Perigraph Black Line, Salthora Meta Black Line and Circularis Power Reserve Black Line are jet-black and have achieved a matt finish courtesy the sandblasted treatment meted to the 43 mm cases. The diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating is the reason for the watch’s rock solid and rugged demeanour. The matte black dial serves as a perfect backdrop to highlight the beige Arabic hour markings and a red-tipped hand. The saddle brown leather strap in different colour variations empower the timepieces which cut a striking image.

MeisterSinger Lunascope

MeisterSinger Lunascope is the brand’s very first astronomical watch. The large moon-phase display finds an ideal setting in a 40 mm stainless steel case shielded by Sapphire glass. The Swiss made Lunascope is available in two versions- a sunburst dial in the dark blue of the moon’s background or with a silvery opaline dial. Both the watches have a circular date window at 6 o’clock. The blue dial Lunascope sports a calfskin watchstrap in cognac and the silver dial version exhibits a classic outlooks as it is fitted with a crocodile grain, deep brown leather strap. JUNGHANS

Germany-based watchmaker Junghans first opened its doors in 1861 and created clock components such as wooden cases, bronze signs and pendulums. It gained paramount recognition in 1961 when it started working with one of the most influential Bauhaus designer of the 20th century, Max Bill. The legendary Swiss architect serves as an inspiration for the Junghans Max Bill range of watches that borrow his name.

The Max Bill 2018 edition has been given a contemporary touch while retaining the minimalistic design that makes the collection so distinctive. The balanced proportions and characteristic numerals on the dial are given a hint of colour with a green date window that matches the green stitching of the calfskin strap and its green underlayer.

Junghans Max Bill

More than 50 years ago, Max Bill designed a timepiece for Junghans that went on to become a design icon. On the caseback, the ‘sicherheit’ artwork of four yellow, red, blue and green triangles formed into a square pays a beautiful homage to the artist along with reflecting the core motto of “form follows function” in every detail.

So, that was a low down on two German watch brands that are stirring a storm in the Alps at Baselworld 2018. Which brand suits your preference? Tell us in the comment section below.
