SpotlightOmega novelties at Baselworld 2015

A year marked by many novelties

May We Recommend

The crown jewel of the Swatch Group, Omega has always been one of the most admired brands at Baselworld. This year was exceptionally exciting for the brand as it launched the world’s first Master Chronometer – the Omega Globemaster. Setting a new standard in the world of horology the Globemaster is the most advanced mechanical movement Omega has ever made. The Omega novelties at Baselworld 2015 also include new versions of the iconic Speedmaster, a gorgeous Constellation Pluma and a new James Bond Seamaster.

THE GLOBEMASTER – THE WORLD’S FIRST MASTER CHRONOMETER

The Globemaster – A new standard in horology

The Globemaster carries the legacy of Omega – a true symbol of horological expertise, precision and outstanding performance. The 39mm timepiece features the iconic pie-pan design made famous by the Constellation in 1952. The beautiful 18K Sedna case has a silvery opaline dial protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and is surrounded by a fluted bezel and brown leather strap which gives the Globemaster a unique identity for generations to come. A domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal back with a beautifully decorated medallion made of the same case material protects the Omega Co-Axial Calibre 8900 powering the timepiece. This is the brand’s most advanced mechanical movement ever made and has been certified by METAS through a series of independent tests in addition to the certification by COSC. The Omega Globemaster is the world’s first Master Chronometer, a new standard in the watch industry. The certification process ensures that the watch and its movement perform even when exposed to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

The medallion shows an observatory surrounded by a polished sky, marked with eight stars representing the eight points of METAS certification and also the eight chronometric records Omega set in the 20th century.

THE SEAMASTER JAMES BOND AQUA TERRA 150M

The Seamaster James Bond Aqua Terra 150M

The world famous spy James Bond is back this year with his latest film Spectre set to release this November. James Bond is never seen without his trustworthy Omega Seamaster. The 2015 limited edition Omega Seamaster James Bond Aqua Terra 150M takes its inspiration from the Bond family coat of arms. The symbol is repeatedly interlocked to create a unique pattern on the bold blue PVD dial. The symbol is also present on the tip of the central seconds hand which matches the yellow accent on the dial.

The caseback – In true James Bond style

The 41.5 mm stainless steel watch has a fascinating feature in the oscillating weight which has been cut and shaped to resemble the gun barrel design, a feature long associated with James Bond. Powered by an Omega Co-Axial calibre 8507 resistant to magnetic fields greater than 15,007 gauss, the Omega Seamaster James Bond Aqua Terra 150M watch has been limited to 15,007 pieces. Each watch has its unique model number engraved on the caseback.

THE SPEEDMASTER APOLLO 13 – SILVER SNOOPY AWARD

Omega has always played an important role in the space exploration missions of NASA. The Omega Speedmaster Apollo 13 is a tribute to the 45th anniversary of the legendary Apollo 13 mission and the safe return of all the astronauts to Earth. Omega was presented with the Silver Snoopy Award by the astronauts for its reliability and performance under extreme conditions. The Omega Speedmaster Apollo 13 is a symbol of the brand’s role in space exploration and highlights NASA’s connection to Snoopy, their mascot for safety.

The Speedmaster Apollo 13 – Silver Snoopy Award

The watch design is inspired by the black and white Snoopy and gang comic strips printed in newspapers. The Omega Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award features a white dial with black varnished hands and a distinct white hand on the small seconds sub-dial. The indexes with black varnished top cavities are surrounded by a polished black ceramic bezel ring. All these elements make the dial the inverse of the Speedmaster Professional dial. The SuperLumiNova on the indexes is on the outside instead of the center. A small Snoopy made of Special SuperLumiNova paint decorates the sub-dial at 9’o’clock. The SuperLumiNova on the tachymetre scale emits a green light. A small inscription on the on dial between 0-14 seconds asks – “What could you do in 14 seconds?”- which was the amount of time the Apollo 13 astronauts took to perform a mid-course correction before re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. The electrical power on the Command Module was very limited following the accidental oxygen tank explosion. The reliable and robust Omega Speedmaster Professional was used to time the 14 second procedure by the astronauts. Frames at each second come together to form a comic strip.

The Silver Medallion Caseback bears an image of Snoopy floating in space.

The watch caseback is unlike any other with a 925 silver Snoopy medallion mounted on a plate of the same material surrounded by dark blue enamel. Silver dust is sprinkled by hand on each caseback, making it seem like Snoopy is floating in space. The silver medallion is reminiscent of the pin – the Silver Snoopy Award presented to Omega for its contribution to the success of the Apollo Missions.

The Omega Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award features the famous Omega 1861 calibre manual-winding chronograph movement – the first to be worn on the moon. The bracelet is coated nylon fabric for high performance in extreme conditions.

THE SPEEDMASTER DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon – Black Black Edition is inspired by the mystique of the Earth’s nightlight

The Moon has always been a source of mystery and intrigue and has enchanted us since the beginning of time. The mystique of the Earth’s nightlight is what inspires the new collection of the black ceramic Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon.

The brushed blackened Moonwatch style hands and blackened applied indexes – all coated with black SuperLumiNova add to the beauty if of this dark masterpiece. THE SPEEDMASTER WHITE SIDE OF THE MOON

The eye-catching Speedmaster White Side of the Moon

The stunning Omega Speedmaster Chronograph is inspired not by astronauts but by the radiance of the Moon as observed from the Earth. The third in Omega’s collection of solid ceramic timepieces, the Speedmaster supports a brushed and polished 44.25mm white ceramic case body and polished white ceramic bezel supporting a matt chromium nitride tachymeter scale with polished ceramic pushers. The white zirconium oxide ceramic dial has 18K white gold hand and applied indexes. There is a hint of red colour at the tip of the central seconds hand at the family name on the dial.

THE SPEEDMASTER ’57

The vintage Speedmaster

A remake of the 1957 Speedmaster – an icon in the industry for more than 50 years. The Omega Speedmaster 57 comes with several new updated features. The polished faceted rhodium plated central hour and minute hands are in the bold-arrow style and coated with vintage Super LumiNova just like the 1957 original. The black dial with beige indications is perfectly matched with the brushed bezel and tachymeter scale which is always identified with the Speedmaster Chronograph family. The Omega Co-Axial calibre 9300 can be seen through the scratch-resistant sapphire caseback. Presented here in a brown leather strap.

THE CONSTELLATION PLUMA

The beautiful dial is inspired by the delicate wisps of a feather

The iconic Constellation series had a new addition in the elegant and beautiful Constellation Pluma. The light coral-coloured dial brings back memories of a beautiful sunny day in the Swiss countryside. The 11 diamond indexes in 18K gold holders are decorated on the wavy dial, which is inspired by the soft and delicate wisps of a feather. Embellished on the 27mm Constellation Pluma’s 18K red gold bezel are 32 full cut diamonds. At the heart of the watch is an Omega Co-Axial calibre 8520 which is visible through a domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The bracelet is adorned with brushed stainless steel links and polished 18K red gold bars.
