In 1917, three brothers Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup established in Lengnau, a small watchworks factory, which was slated to become one of the largest watch-manufacturing companies in the world. This company, the Rado Uhren A.G., derived its name from the first line of watches that the company marketed. In 1968, they became part of the ASUAG group. A few years later, ASUAG was acquired by the SMH Group. Since 1998, this group has been known as the Swatch Group.
Rado’s progress was based on the company’s belief in the advancement of technology. Ushering in the use of materials like hardmetal, ceramics, lanthanum and sapphire crystal, they revolutionized the techniques of watch-making. The Rado DiaStar, launched in 1962, was the world’s first range of scratch-proof watches. The timepieces from the line continue to be a hugely popular choice among buyers even today. In 2004, the company manufactured the hardest watch on earth, the V10K. Recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, Rado persists in its innovative creativity.
Belonging to the Hyperchrome XL collection for men, this model R32188112 silver-dialed watch spells sophistication. Enclosed within a ceramos gold-tone stainless steel bezel, the dial is set off by the luminous gold watch-hands and stick hour indices. A scratch-proof sapphire crystal protects the dial against damage.
The bracelet is made of ceramos and stainless steel. Gold toned links alternate with the silver toned steel links to create a smart look. The duo-tone enhances the attraction of this superbly functioning time-piece from Rado.
Delivering on the Rado promise of efficiency and aesthetics, the watch is battery operated and uses a quartz movement to remain updated on the date and time. A calendar window peeps at the 3 o’ clock position to enhance the functionality of the timepiece. It is also water resistant up to 50 metres.
In 1917, in Switzerland, three brothers—Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup—opened a clockwork factory called Schlup & Co. From its humble beginnings, it is this same company that we today known as Rado. In 1957, exactly 40 years since its inception, the company changed its name to Rado Uhren AG and presented its first watch collection.
The monobloc case of the ceramic watches in this new Rado family represents a breakthrough in technology as well as a step forward in design. Lightweight, extremely comfortable and eye-catching, the Rado HyperChrome is the ultimate every day all occasion timepiece.
Key milestones in Rado’s impressive history so far include the world’s first scratch resistant watch, pioneering high-tech ceramic in watchmaking, the monobloc injected ceramic case and the introduction of touch technology in a ceramic watch. The brand was also the first to use plasma high-tech ceramic in the world.
