During the 1940s, there were two key challenges before the watch-makers of the world: the night-time and underwater visibility of the watch. Officine Panerai took the challenge of creating a watch, which could be effectively functional during the night time and underwater activities. In 1949, they succeeded in identifying a luminescent substance, which to a greater extent changed the course of the watch-making tradition of the brand. The collection was named Luminor, which was named after this priceless substance. This collection has set new standards in the world of watch-making for generations to come. These were the watches that can survive even the most hostile conditions.

Though the Panerai Lunimor PAM00561 timepiece is crafted on the traditional lines; it manages to retain the most elegant design finish and contemporary appeal. The round-shaped case with a diameter of 44m is made with a special stainless steel AISI 316L 1.4435, which is resistant to corrosion and can withstand pressure in highly humid conditions. Along with the case, the bezel of the watch is also made with stainless steel. The steel case of the watch fuses perfectly with the white dial, which gives the watch a unique white radiance. The dial of the watch has Arabic numerals and luminous dot markers etched on it.
The strap material of the watch is made with leather, which you can proudly wear on your wrist with élan and comfort.

The Sapphire crystal, used as a glass material on this watch, is obtained from corundum – the second hardest material in the world. This makes the glass of the watch both scratch-proof and anti-reflective at the same time. The watch has a high water resistant mark to a depth of 300 metres, which makes it one of the very few watches in the world that can successfully function during underwater activities. This efficiently crafted timepiece comes with a famous P.5000, an in-house movement with an impressive 8-day of power reserve.

Night-time and underwater visibility of watch-dials were two challenges faced by the watches made in the 1940’s era. Officine Panerai took up the cause of crafting a watch  with these unsuitable problems taken care ofand in 1949, came out with a groundbreaking solution. The Florentine watch-maker and founder of the world renowned Officine Panerai brand was successful in identifying a luminescent substance which changed the course of watch-making for generations to come. Named after this invaluable substance, the Luminor collection set a new benchmark for visibility in hostile conditions.

All Luminor models come adorned with a brilliant solution to further enhance the robustness and reliability of an achiever’s watch, the lever device protecting the crown.  This helps in making the crown more water-tight as well as shielding it more effectively. In 1956 Officine Panerai patented the distinctive crown protection bridge that these time-pieces are renowned for. The strap attachments are crafted from the very same block of steel as the case. The Luminor Base models are crafted from a single block of AISI 316L stainless steel resulting in sleek, comfortable wear. Sapphire crystal obtained from corundum, the second hardest material in the world, is used to prepare the anti-reflective, scratch-proof glass, another significant Luminor characteristic. The Luminor Base 8 Days Acciaio is yet another well established time-piece that emerged equipped with the famous P.5000, an in-house movement with an 8-day power reserve.

On 8th December, history was made by Panerai models which managed to garner more than 1 million euros as proceeds at the ‘Panerai Only’ auction by the renowned Artcurial Auction house for Officine Panerai. Two vintage models, a Luminor and a Marina Militare were auctioned off at a whopping 120,000 euros,  significantly much higher than any initial auction estimates.

The Panerai Luminor comes with the look which is elegant and classy. The watch is a must have for those who 'dress to impress'. The 300-meter water resistance makes it almost impossible to be stopped by water. With a combination of black and white which can never go out of trend the Panerai Luminor Base 8 Days, is a watch which calls for envy.

A must have!

Panerai catered to the needs of the Italian Royal Navy in the 1930s and developed watches that were not only water resistant but tough and extremely reliable. Through the years, technological advancements allowed Officine Panerai to develop watches that were horological marvels. In the early 1990s, Panerai decided to make their watches available to noncombatants and exhibited three limited-editions watches to a select few horology connoisseurs and followers of the brand. The Luminor case was born, replacing the older robust cushion shaped models with a more contemporary minimalist softer edged design. The PAM00561 honors the Luminor tradition with its clear simplicity and clean look. Its P.5000 calibre is housed in a 44mm polished steel case with the standard recognizable crown protecting device. The white dial perfectly complements the polished steel bezel and case, with black Arabic numerals and luminous hour dot markers. The transparent case back allows for the movement to be viewed in addition to its 8-day power reserve.
