About the Panerai Luminor Collection
History
Night-time and underwater visibility of watch-dials were two challenges faced by the watches made in the 1940s era. Officine Panerai took up the job of crafting a watch with these unsuitable problems. These problems were taken care of in 1949 when Panerai came out with a groundbreaking solution with the Panerai Luminor collection. Panerai was successful in identifying a luminescent substance that changed the course of watch-making for generations to come. Named after this invaluable substance, the Panerai Luminor collection set a new benchmark for visibility in hostile conditions.
Features
The Panerai Luminor collection is adorned with a brilliant solution to further enhance the robustness and reliability of a watch, the lever protecting the crown. This helps in making the crown more water-tight as well as shielding it more effectively. In 1956 Officine Panerai patented the distinctive crown protection bridge that the Panerai Luminor is renowned for. Whereas, the integrated lugs provide better protection and comfort. Apart from an in-house movement, the crown protector, and the cushion-shaped case, the Luminor collection also features a small seconds window at 9 o’clock apart from the GMT, Chrono Monopulsante, Base, and Left-handed versions.
Events
On 8th December, history was made by Panerai models which managed to garner more than 1 million euros as proceeds at the ‘Panerai Only’ auction by the renowned Artcurial Auction house for Officine Panerai. Two vintage models, a Luminor and a Marina Militare were auctioned off at more than million euros significantly much higher than any initial auction estimates.

The Panerai Luminor comes with the look which is elegant and classy. The watch is a must have for those who 'dress to impress'. The 300-meter water resistance makes it almost impossible to be stopped by water. With a combination of black and white which can never go out of trend the Panerai Luminor Base 8 Days, is a watch which calls for envy.

Panerai catered to the needs of the Italian Royal Navy in the 1930s and developed watches that were not only water resistant but tough and extremely reliable. Through the years, technological advancements allowed Officine Panerai to develop watches that were horological marvels. In the early 1990s, Panerai decided to make their watches available to noncombatants and exhibited three limited-editions watches to a select few horology connoisseurs and followers of the brand. The Luminor case was born, replacing the older robust cushion shaped models with a more contemporary minimalist softer edged design. The PAM00561 honors the Luminor tradition with its clear simplicity and clean look. Its P.5000 calibre is housed in a 44mm polished steel case with the standard recognizable crown protecting device. The white dial perfectly complements the polished steel bezel and case, with black Arabic numerals and luminous hour dot markers. The transparent case back allows for the movement to be viewed in addition to its 8-day power reserve.
