About the Urwerk UR-Special Projects Collection

Backdrop

Urwerk’s departures from its signature theme of wandering-hour indications have always been spectacular, and the Urwerk Ur-Special Projects collection is no exception. This latest exercise in complex micromechanics is a worthy rival to the brand’s other ever-evolving mind, in both originality and mechanical virtuosity. For the independent company’s dedicated team members, the Urwerk Ur-Special Projects collection proved a difficult puzzle to solve.

Series & Features

There is a known tactic of proving one’s effectiveness with certain special projects and this is the same with Urwerk. The Urwerk Ur-Special Projects is a line of ultra-complicated timepieces that define the robust nature of Urwerk. The Special Project offers a line of timepieces such as Ur-111C, Ur-112, Ur-1001, Ur-CC1, and Ur-T8. The Ur-111C embodies the sound mind of a philosopher and the mechanical acumen of a watchmaker. According to Felix Baumgartner, “There has to be a strong bond with a mechanism that merges into your wrist and communicates with you.” Communication is of utmost importance to these watchmakers and for that, they introduced a roller instead of a crown in the middle of the case for winding the movement. Whereas, Martin Frei decided to incorporate a few Middle Eastern influences and also took inspiration from an exquisite automobile called the Bugatti Atlantique for the Ur-112. The Ur-CC1 treads differently with a linear display of time. This is highly unlikely of Urwerk but is a product of three years of research and development.
