About the Louis Moinet Mechanical Wonders Collection

Mechanical Wonders

The Louis Moinet Mechanical Wonders collection celebrates the mechanical complexities of the watchmaking world. Equipped with timepieces that defy traditional watchmaking, these timeless watches are more than just timekeepers but a doorway to contemporary mechanical art. The Louis Moinet Mechanical Wonders collection weighs over the creativity, technicity, and exclusivity of the watchmaking process. Be it a complex exhibit dial or a hand-crafted engraving, the Louis Moinet Mechanical Wonders collection stores everything rare the horological world has to offer.

The Memoris

Louis Moinet crafted the world’s first chronograph in 1816. Being the world’s first brand to devise a complication that still beguiles the most, Louis Moinet had to play on the legacy factor. A simple chronograph, the Louis Moinet Memoris is equipped with two counters, one for minutes and the other for seconds. These two counters are located at the 3 and 6 o’clock markers with just a monopusher placed above the crown. Whereas, the crown is engraved with Louis Moinet’s logo. For the timekeeping duties, the sub-dial at the 6 o’clock marker handles it with Louis Moinet’s dewdrop hands and Roman numerals.

The Metropolis

Perfectly blended with urban aesthetics, the steampunk-inspired Metropolis offers a contemporary stance toward horology. Be it the satin-finished hour markers, or the ‘Gouettes de Rosée’ hands, the Metropolis exudes elegance with each and every component. Whereas, above the exposed section of the dial is the small seconds sub-dial. With a ring floating over the escapement, the small seconds dial at the 9 o’clock marker imparts a rather opulent approach to the Metropolis.

Derrick

To truly depict or capture the essence of the Louis Moinet Mechanical Wonders collection, one needs to dig into the automaton offered by the brand, Derrick. An automaton is a machine that performs functions according to a predetermined set of codes. The Derrick series is a perfect example of Louis Moinet’s cocktail of artistic brilliance and mechanical dexterity and an automaton. Derrick, a device used for extracting oil from the ground is encapsulated inside the dial. The derrick featured on the dial completes a cycle every 15 seconds. The derrick is powered by the movement of the watch and does not require an external power source.

The Tempograph & Geograph

Louis Moinet knows how to put on a show. With the Tempograph, the show is synchronised and well-tailored. The 20-second retrograde hand on the centre jumps back to the start every 20 seconds while the openwork dial gives a glimpse of the proprietary LM50 movement. The Tempograph is available in different case materials such as 316L stainless steel, 18kt white gold, and 18kt rose gold. On the other end of the spectrum is the Geograph. A chronograph to the core, the Geograph is equipped with a titanium case and the dial is decorated with a Côtes du Jura motif. The sub-dials are made with aventurine and these dials are controlled by two pushers placed above and below the crown.

The Other Wonders

The Louis Moinet Mechanical Wonders collection is equipped with timepieces such as the Astronef. Astronef is equipped with two ‘satellite tourbillons’ that rotate opposite each other. Recently added to the Mechanical Wonders is the ‘Time to Race’ series. For the first time, Louis Moinet has dedicated watches to automotive enthusiasts. The Time to Race series features a grade 5 titanium case, tachymeter, and a 60-second display at the 9 o’clock marker. Playing with the rare materials, the Wabar Tourbillon is equipped with a fragment from the Wabar meteorite. This is the first time a Wabar fragment has stepped outside the walls of a museum. The hunt for rarity does not end here, the T-Rex Tourbillon is fitted with the fossil of an actual T-Rex. Whereas, the Jurassic Tourbillon timepiece is equipped with a dial that is made from a Jurassic era dinosaur’s fossil.
