Jacob Arabo, the founder of Jacob & Co. was in the USSR when the movie ‘Godfather’ ran into the cinemas. Jacob grew closer to the movie, especially the soundtrack. To commemorate the legendary movie and the soundtrack, the Jacob & Co. Opera Godfather collection was launched in an official partnership with Paramount Consumer Products.

The Music Box On a Wrist

Jacob & Co. has achieved complexities with a pinch of artistic acumen. With the Opera Godfather, the complex portion was fitting a music box inside a wristwatch. A music box is a mechanical device that plays a set of notes which was prevalent during the middle ages. It was not an easy task to fit this complicated mechanism inside a wristwatch but this was achieved with the JCFM04 movement. The 658-component movement is equipped with two cylinders fitted with teeth that turn against two combs playing the 120-notes theme song of the movie, “The Godfather”. This complication is activated by a pusher at the 10 o'clock marker. To further accentuate the musical box, the timepiece is also fitted with a triple-axis gravitational tourbillon. These complications are fixed over the signature differential that makes the whole setup rotate 360 degrees every 60 seconds. The winding mechanism for the manually winding movement is also unique. Instead of a crown, there is a crank in the shape of a violin. One needs to pull out the violin crank and turn it, once done, it needs to be placed back in its position. Apart from the mechanical complexity, the collection also features an intricately crafted miniature of Don Vito Corleone, the protagonist of the movie, ‘The Godfather' and also a piano. Adding a sense of bling to the collection, the Opera Godfather Baguette Diamonds features baguette-cut diamonds on the case and dial.

The Opera Godfather Minute Repeater

Fitting more complications into the already complex Opera, the Opera Godfather Minute Repeater adds the minute repeater complication with the JCFM07 movement. Activated by a pusher at 9 o’clock, the minute repeater works independently from the music box. The exposed gongs and hammer perfectly display the working mechanism of the minute repeater that chimes every quarter hour, minute, and hour. A portrait of Marlon Brando aka “The Godfather” is painted on the piano fixed inside the dial and a triple-axis tourbillon dancing beside it. The Opera Godfather Minute Repeater displays time on a static skeletonised time display mounted centrally on the movement. The Opera Godfather Minute Repeater is also available in a diamond-studded musical barrel variant.
