About the Hublot Big Bang Collection

Big Bang-Chiming in the Revolution

Since the advent of Hublot, the brand has released avant-garde watches that redefined the perception of the horological world. In 2005, Hublot came up with the Big Bang collection. The Hublot Big Bang collection was in all its essence a true Hublot with its large case and a futuristic design. Since the launch of the collection, the Big Bang has collaborated with brands and personalities such as Ferrari, DJ Snake, Samuel Ross, FIFA, and Depeche Mode. Known for its eccentric stance and a busy dial, the Hublot Big Bang collection flows with the outlandish DNA of the brand. Even while being particularly eccentric, the Big Bang collection is also home to a much simpler variant of the Big Bang, the 3-Hands series. The 3-Hands series takes its inspiration from the original Hublot from the 80s. The series also features a diamond-studded bezel, integrated bracelets and straps.

The Original

Back when Carlo Crocco launched the original Hublot, little did he know that his creation would change the course of watchmaking history. The ‘Art of Fusion’ took its course in the 80s. But it was when Hublot experienced a dip in sales they realised the need to bring something innovative to the market. The answer was a 44mm case that started the ‘big watch trend’. Even though large cases were made before the advent of the Big Bang it was Hublot who made it popular. The Original series inside the Hublot Big Bang collection pays a fitting homage to the original Big Bang with its three chronograph sub-dials at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock marker. The Original series also retains the unusually placed date window placed between the 4 and the 5 o’clock marker. The Original series is equipped with cases made of rare materials such as Ceramic, Titanium, and Rose Gold. The Original series also fields a 38mm case size variant. This variation of the Big Bang is not equipped with either the chronographs or the date window but with a diamond-studded bezel or in some cases, the case too.

The Big Bang Unico

Hublot is known for its extravagant designs and complications but there is this one movement that portrays the true DNA of the brand, the Unico calibre. A preposterous example of redundancy, Hublot took its avant-garde nature to a mechanical trip. The Unico calibre is unique as it is the first one to be equipped with a chronograph that operates with a reworked double clutch. A double-clutch operates more reliably and is less power-consuming than its less complicated counterpart. Apart from the clutch, the Unico calibre also features a modular escapement. The modular escapement consists of a balance wheel, an escape wheel, and the escapement itself. Functioning as one unit, the modular escapement can be removed easily with its other parts kept intact. This boils to easier and quicker servicing and removes the need for disassembling the whole movement. Now, in most the timepieces, the dial is home to a flyback chronograph and two chronograph sub-dials. At the 9 o’clock marker is the seconds chronograph and at the 3 o’clock is the 60-minute chronograph. These two sub-dials are placed over a skeleton dial donning the Unico movement. Apart from being a chronograph, the Big Bang Unico series is also home to the world’s first mechanical golf watch. Launched in 2017, the Big Bang Unico Golf is equipped with a hole counter at 9 o’clock, a shot counter at 3 o’clock, and a total scoreboard at the 6 o’clock marker.

The Big Bang Meca-10

Hublot does not only design good watches it also designs aesthetically pleasing movements. The Big Bang Meca-10 is equipped with manually winded HUB1201. With a power reserve of approximately 10 days, the Meca-10 is a robust series of timepieces. The power reserve is indicated at the 6 o’clock marker presented via a red grid. Another power reserve is a rack-style indicator on the 12 o’clock marker. With a skeleton dial, the series features the original Big Bang dial with 6 screws on the bezel.
