About the Doxa DOXA Army Collection

History

Doxa has been associated with the diving community, it was very rare to find that Doxa also featured a watch that ‘Army’ written on its dial. The Doxa Army was produced during the 70s and it is hard to determine if it was officially adopted by the Swiss Army or not. What was sure that these timepieces were a rare breed both in terms of quantity and Doxa’s history. In 2021, Doxa decided to relaunch the ‘Army’. In the 70s, Doxa launched just 100 pieces of this collection and even today, these watches are limited to just 100 timepieces.

Features

The concept of rarity which we discussed earlier can be expanded here. Doxa rarely produced watches that were made apart from stainless steel. The Doxa Army collection features a 42.5mm case that is made with ceramic. This matte-finished case is important for the military as it prevents glare to the eyes. Apart from the materialistic compositions, the Doxa Army is also different in terms of design. Be it the absence of metronome shaped hands or the omission of the two-tone bezel, the Doxa Army is one of its kind. What is retained is the cushion-shaped case and the index markers, making it a Doxa to the core. The Army also features a date window at the 3 o’clock marker and printed ‘Army’ between the 4 and 5 o’clock marker.

Movement

Inside the Doxa Army is the Sellita SW200-1 movement. The COSC certified automatic movement is a clone of the ETA 2842-2 that is primarily used inside the SUB 200 and SUB 300. The SW 200-1 provides a power reserve of up to 38 hours and vibrates at a frequency of 28,800 vph.
