About the Czapek Antarctique Collection
History
History has its roots in the Czapek Antarctique collection. A collection of timepieces termed the flagship of Czapek, it builds upon the static yet opulent nature of the brand. Named after the English Naval officer, Sir Francis Drake, the Czapek Antarctique collection pays homage to the officer who discovered the passage through the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean. This collection exudes the adventure inside the life of Francis Drake. In 2020, Czapek launched the Antarctique Terre Adélie which was the first timepiece under the Antarctique collection.
The Passage De Drake
The Antarctique Passage De Drake series is a sleek, chic take on the Czapek’s heritage. With its integrated lugs, the series exudes sportiness. What makes this series apart from other sports watches is the motif on the dial. Called the ‘Stairway to Eternity’, it closely resembles the famous song by Led Zeppelin which was named ‘Stairway to Heaven’. It is sometimes said the legendary song was created by mistake. This is the same case with the unique motif on the dial. The brand wanted a unique design for the dial but was not able to come up with something substantial. When the lead designer accidentally increased the size of the trapezoids by 50%, the design stuck inside the CEO’s head. So, this is how the in-house design for the Antarctique Passage De Drake series came into prominence.
Features
The Antarctique is Czpaek’s first sports watch and falls under the more casual luxury watch segment called the ‘Athleisure’. With integrated lugs and a steel bracelet, it defines the soul of the watch that is a little bit laid back with a pinch of opulence. The Czapek Antarctique collection is equipped with a date window at 6 o’clock. Whereas, the timekeeping duties are handled by Index markers though in a few timepieces the Roman numeral is fitted at the 12 o’clock marker. The collection is available in three different dial colours, Deep Blue, Ice White, and Black Ink.
The SXH5
The SXH5 movement is an in-house automatic movement that is equipped with a micro-rotor for a better visual representation of the movement. Inspired by the pocket watch era, the movement features deep-grey bridges that were prominent during the bygone times. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 56 hours and beats at 4Hz.
