About the Alpina Startimer Collection
The Startimer collection epitomises Alpina’s dedication to crafting pilot watches that blend functionality with heritage. The collection pays homage to the brand’s original designs from the 1920s and 1930s, aiming to provide modern aviators with timepieces that reflect the spirit of early aviation. With a commitment to quality and innovation, the Startimer series reinforces Alpina's position as a manufacturer of reliable and stylish pilot watches.
Design And Iterations
The design of the Startimer collection is characterised by its clean and legible dials, which prioritise readability in flight conditions. The collection has seen several evolutions, each offering distinct features that appeal to both professional pilots and watch enthusiasts. One of the foundational models is the automatic three-hand version, equipped with the calibre AL-525, providing reliability and precision. Alpina further elevates the collection with the in-house calibre AL-710, which includes minute and hour indications alongside an off-centre date hand, adding a layer of sophistication to the design. Another notable iteration is the Startimer Pilot Regulator, driven by the calibre AL-950. This model merges the historic design elements of traditional pilot watches with a modern regulator layout, creating a unique aesthetic that stands out in the collection.
Additionally, Alpina have introduced a robust chronograph version, powered by the calibre AL-860, which features a well-balanced and refined design suited for contemporary tastes. In 2022, the Startimer collection received a redesign, introducing a more compact 41mm case, offering a middle ground between the larger 44mm and 40mm versions. This new iteration features a notched bezel, echoing the design of early aviation watches, enhancing grip while wearing gloves. The red Alpina triangle remains a signature feature, engraved at 12 o'clock. Each model also features an engraved caseback depicting an aircraft flying over a mountain, a nod to the brand’s aviation heritage and is limited to 8,888 pieces, reinforcing its exclusivity and desirability.
