History

After the success of the Tetra and the Lux collection, Nomos decided to unveil the Nomos Glashutte Metro collection in 2014. Launched in the 2014 Basel World, the Metro collection holds the distinction of being a minimalistic modern German watch.

Essence

The Metro is a thoroughly modern collection with its own look and feel, a comment that is hard to make about most timepieces. It’s meant to appeal to a new, younger audience of watch collectors, one that is less attached to the classical vocabularies of heritage brands. To achieve this break, Nomos did something that few watch brands do—they went outside their walls to an independent industrial designer. Mark Braun, who has a studio based in Berlin, has a portfolio of objects that explore form, colour, materiality and playful relationships. The Metro clearly speaks to his style while respecting the feel of Nomos, creating a timepiece that can be widely enjoyed.

Features

The feeling of a flabbergasted Nomos can be directed towards the Metro collection. With a fresh approach, the Nomos Glashutte Metro collection is equipped with a small second dial at the 6 o’clock marker. The collection is equipped with stainless steel cases but is also available in 18 kt Rose Gold. Whereas, the Metro Date Power Reserve perfectly captures the essence of the first Metro ever launched with a power reserve indicator inside the dial between 12 and 1 o’clock marker.

Movements

Before the advent of automatic calibres inside the Metro collection, the collection was just equipped with the Alpha movement. After the addition of automatic movements with date complications, the collection is now home to renowned movements such as DUW 3001, DUW 6101, DUW 4401, and DUW 4101. The DUW 4401 is the brand’s first calibre to incorporate Nomos’s signature escapement.
