With its unfading glamour and timeless appeal, the IWC Portofino Collection has become one of the most successful collections of the entire watch family. The collection after standing the test of time, and thorough laboratory testing for daily purpose suitability, can now, with great pride, bear the brand’s seal of quality, which is “Probus Scafusia”, meaning “good, solid craftsmanship from Schaffhausen”.
IWC Portofino Hand Wound Eight Days 510103 watch for men, is elegantly designed and is a complete masterpiece. The dial of this classic watch is made with a polished stainless steel case, along with a fixed bezel, crafted with a fine stainless steel body. The dial looks spectacular with an embellishment of gold plated leaf-shaped minutes and hour hands. This dial also houses appliquéd polished rose gold index hour markers with minutes, seconds and fractions of seconds mark indexes, etched out in colour white, and 5 minute increments indicated in Arabic numerals. There is also a small seconds’ sub-dial positioned at the 9 o’clock position, along with a date display window that opens up at the 3 o’clock position. Despite showcasing multiple features, the dial looks uncluttered and appeals to the onlooker.
IWC Portofino Hand Wound Eight Days 510103 watch for men, is embedded with automatic movement Caliber 59210 that beats at 28,800 vph. It comes with an impressive power reserve of eight days, and it may extend to even nine days. Its santoni brown alligator leather strap, along with a stainless steel clasp, not only helps in accentuating the look of the watch, but also provides comfortable and firm grip to the wearer. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal case back helps in giving a clearer view of the movement of the watch, and also protects the dial from unwanted damages and scratches. At the same time, the watch is also made water-resistant up to depth of 30 metres, thus guarding the watch against rain and accidental water splashes.
Portofino was a former fishing village on the Gulf of Tigullio in Genoa, Italy and serves as a classic Mediterranean vacation spot for actors and actresses across the world. The quaint little place provided the inspiration for the Portofino family of IWC Schaffhausen in the late 1970s. The watch collection was crafted to provide a classic simplicity which appeared beautifully in the pioneer watch, the IWC Lepine open-faced pocket watch whose dial was turned through 90 degrees and was equipped with a moon phase display.
Highly acclaimed for its stylistic design and myriad features, the IWC Portofino collection has something to whet every watch lovers appetite. The features range from Portofino Chronograph watches with two or three visually elegant complications, to the classic moonphase complication present in vintage collections only. The materials clothing the case include rose gold, white gold and stainless steel with hand-stitched alligator leather straps in assorted colours of black, chocolate, camel and midnight blue. A select few from the Portofino Automatic edition feature an elegant Milanese mesh stainless steel bracelet, keeping in sync with the leisurely charm of the collection.
The Portofino Midsize watch collection was launched as recently as 2014 with lavish fan-fair and gala dinners. Celebrations were held in Dubai at the Ladies only fashion Dinner, showcasing the “Timeless Portofino” and hosted by CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, Georges Kerne and Brand director, Karoline Huber. In Hong Kong a splendid dinner party starring the Portofino Midsize watch collection was hosted by IWC Schaffhausen and attended by many Portofino devotees and friends.
The Portofino family is beloved among the talented and famous. Australian actress Cate Blanchett is a Friend of the Brand who represented the 2014 IWC Portofino Midsize edition in Dubai along with Czech model, Karolina Kurkova. Brazilian model and actress, Adriana Lima also attended the novel Ladies only Fashion dinner in Dubai as a brand ambassador and friend.
