Have you ever wondered what the word “Movado” means? It is an Esperanto term meaning “always in motion”. And lately, Movado has been doing just that! In the last few years, Movado as a watch brand has been steadily moving upwards, from avant-garde timepieces like the Movado Edge (which we have heard so much about) to their classic watches like the Movado 1881 Automatic Collection. The Movado Series 800 collection (the watch we are going to review today) also plays a major part in taking the brand forward and representing its motto – the Art of Performance. A complete sports watch, the Movado Series 800 definitely makes a mark on any watch enthusiast who has a soft corner for immaculately designed sporty timepieces.

About the Series 800:
The Movado Series 800 is an out and out sporty watch that features a fixed aluminium bezel with newly-coloured dials. It is a great shift from what you might have seen earlier from Movado; it definitely does not adhere to the minimalism of the “Museum Dial” that they are most famous for. This further reinforces the brand’s dedication to creating a melange of watches.
The case: 40mm performance steel, aluminium bezel with screw-down crown
The Movado Series 800 is fitted with a 40mm steel case that houses an aluminium fixed sports bezel and offers a water resistance of up to 200 meters. The bezel is done in the same colour variations as the dial: blue, black and green. The 40mm case also features a screw-down crown. To set the watch, all one needs to do is first unlock the crown by turning it counter clockwise. It takes approximately six rotations for the crown to unlock or unscrew. You can then take it forward to set your time/date, depending on your need of the hour. Also note that once your watch is set, the crown must again be screwed back down to ensure that the case remains water resistant.

The Movado Series 800 has a closed case back that features the name of the collection. Otherwise plain, the case back mentions the key technical information about the watch, like its water-resistance, the material used for the case and crystal, and the ‘Swiss-Made’ mark.

The dial & movement: Three dial colours, applied stick markers and Swiss quartz movement
Keeping in accordance with the sporty design theme of the timepiece, the watch features a clean dial, delivered in three attractive colour variations – blue, green and black. In each version, the colour of the bezel matches that of the dial and has silver markings. The sun-ray finish dial features silver applied stick markers with a silver-toned signature “dot” placed at 12 o’ clock (which represents the sun’s rays at high noon). Just below the “dot”, the name of the collection “Series 800” is highlighted in red.

The silver hour, minutes and seconds hand along with the index markers, are filled with Super Luminova to further enrich the legibility of the dial. The Movado Series 800 is powered by a Swiss quartz movement that offers a date display function which is displayed at 3 o’ clock.

Variations:
The Movado Series 800, like we mentioned earlier, is available in three variations to appeal to different tastes. All three options have performance steel link bracelets (brushed and polished) with a deployment clasp that allows a comfortable fit on the wrist.

What can you wear it with?
The Movado Series 800 is a handsome-looking complete sports watch. While it may be a great watch to wear with shorts and a polo shirt when outside or at a sports game, it will also blend in perfectly with a smart business suit worn (preferably the black dial) over a crisp white shirt and black patent shoes.
