Information from both Chinese and Gregorian calendars are displayed—in Moser’s minimal style—on the midnight blue fumé dial. Mechanical wonders of this timepiece include a 400-year gear that completes a revolution once every 400 years, and a double moon indication powered by a reduction gear train that will require an adjustment after 45 million years. That’s not all, though. The frosted glass dial is lacquered white before sub-dials are placed on the base plate, printed and then applied indexes added. All this is housed in a polished and brushed platinum case that considerably elevates the elegance of the watch. Inside is the IWC manufacture calibre 52640 with a power reserve of seven days.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Hijri Perpetual Calendar
Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda PF Hijri Perpetual Calendar is an expression of the Islamic calendar, developed in the eighth century. The 30-year lunar cycle, including the 19 ‘common years’ of 354 days (in white) and 11 ‘abundant years’ of 355 days (in yellow), are denoted in an Arabic font on a sub-dial at 12 o’clock. A sub-dial at three displays the months, with the ninth month—marking Ramadan—stands out in red. At nine is a sub-dial for the days of the month. Here, an aperture indicates a 30-day ‘bountiful’ month or a 29-day ‘common’ month. And on a sub-dial at six is the blue aventurine moon phase indicator. All this information is set against a hand-guilloche backdrop in viridian green.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Chronograph
Among the dressier sports watches out there, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Arctic Grey is powered by the brand’s high-frequency integrated chronograph movement. The automatic, COSC-certified PF070 movement offers a power reserve of 65 hours and can be viewed through the caseback. Sized at 42mm, the case features polished and brushed finishes, and a knurled bezel. The dial is framed by the minutes/seconds track in an icy blue-grey that matches sub-dials at three, six and nine o’clock. A discreet date window at 4:30 only seems to appear when one looks for the date. A ‘triangular stud’ guilloché dial offsets the arctic grey of the sub-dials and the matching, textured rubber strap. Skeletonised timekeeping hands enhance the overall dressy aesthetic of the timepiece, and are tipped with lume for better legibility.
