An Overview
Over the years, Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil has created a niche with music and art. Strengthening its association with musical legends as a part of the Music Icons Series, Raymond Weil announced a new collaboration with legendary British manufacturer Marshall Amplification, with the launch of the Marshall Limited Edition timepiece as a part of the Tango collection. Through specific design elements that are reminiscent of the Marshall legacy, this new edition of the Raymond Weil Tango pays tribute to the best in the business and to the generous volumes they generate to delightful effect.

With this Marshall Limited Edition timepiece, Raymond Weil continues its tradition of interpreting great musical influences into their well-crafted timepieces and spawning treasure items for music aficionados, collectors and audiophiles. There is nothing closer to legendary musicians performing on stage than their amplifiers and speaker cabinets, and the Marshall Amplification Limited Edition timepiece pays a blaring homage to one of the most revered manufacturers of music amplifiers, speakers and more instruments, which revolutionised the music industry on a global level. Launched in 1962, legendary British manufacturer Marshall has built a reputation for itself by enabling guitarists to take centre-stage with more volume and attitude than ever before. It has been used by some of the most iconic musicians in history including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Paul Weller, Guns N’ Roses and Cream.
Impressions
The Marshall design cues are all there in great detail, incorporated in this bold and unique timepiece, which aesthetically is largely appealing to men. A sheer exhibition of pure craftsmanship, this timepiece hits the right notes by mimicking the appearance of a Marshall amplifier, a ubiquitous entity on the rock stage. This trailblazing collaboration of music and art strikes a fresh, distinctive note in the current rock generation.

The case in black PVD:
One of the biggest trends of 2018 that prevailed in the watchmaking world was physical vapour deposition (PVD). Retaining modernity and urban style while offering the promise of utmost protection and resilience, PVD coating has emerged as the de facto method for producing all-black watch designs. This 43mm striking timepiece—complete with a polished, PVD-coated bezel—is bringing sexy back by complementing the black PVD exterior with gold-coloured details on the dial.

The distinctive dial:
The dial texture resembles the external grills on Marshall’s amplifiers. While the white ring around the dial mirrors the finish of the Marshall amps, the dial decoration is reminiscent of the Marshall ‘defender’ paper.
Strap it on:
Presented on a genuine black calf leather strap with white stitching that is paired with a black PVD folding clasp and double-push security system, this watch definitely has a groovy demeanour.

The movement amps it up:
This Tango is powered by a quartz movement, with a height of 4.4mm. The movement powers a chronograph feature with the start, stop and restart push-button at two o’clock, and the reset push-button at four o’clock on the case, along with a central chronograph hand on the dial. The timepiece is replete with a date display positioned between four and five o’clock.
A Loud Statement
While the black-and-gold look of the timepiece makes a fashion-forward statement, the indices and the steel, baton-shaped hands, treated with luminescent SuperLuminova and yellow gold PVD plating, offer great readability. The gold-coloured inverse-panda chronograph sub-dials—30-minutes counter at nine o’clock and 12-hours counter at six o’clock—draw inspiration from the Marshall amplifiers’ sound buttons and measure elapsed time periods, as part of the chronograph feature. The black sub-dial, positioned at three o’clock, displays the running seconds.

Water resistant to an impressive 300m, this timepiece reverberates under the water as well (metaphorically, that is), if you wish to indulge in some water sports. The exclusive timepiece is limited to just 1,000 pieces, with a numbered caseback that also carries the iconic Marshall logo. To endorse the relationship between the two brands, the watch is presented with a certificate of authenticity. Not only that, the watch comes in a custom-made box inspired by Marshall’s signature aesthetics.

Raymond Weil’s Love For Music
Raymond Weil had implanted music into their horological DNA as early as 1983. Starting from the Amadeus collection—named after the classical Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart—to succeeding music-inspired collections, such as Fidelio, Traviata, Saxo, Toccata, Fantasia, Nabucco, Maestro, etc. With all these special editions, the Swiss watchmaker has been communicating the universal language of music. Well-renowned music stalwarts and icons, including Buddy Holly, David Bowie, The Beatles, Bob Marley, AC/DC, Gibson guitars, and Giuseppe Verdi have inspired Raymond Weil’s works.

Along with violinist Nicola Benedetti (the brand’s first female music ambassador), guitarist Milos Karadaglic, Labrinth and 2Cellos, they have all been the recipients of tributes by the brand through limited edition timepieces or collaborations. At present, the brand has international partnerships with renowned artists, famous music brands, iconic concert halls, foundations dedicated to supporting the arts, as well as the most prestigious music awards ceremonies, such as the BRIT.
