Back To Basics – The Core Mantra For MeisterSinger
‘Timeless classics give us the feeling as if they had been around forever,’ is what MeisterSinger believes. In today’s time, there is a minority that strives to go back to the basics and excel at that. In the watch industry where dials are getting larger and bolder, and the movements are compiled with more complexities, here is a brand that chooses to stand out from the clutter.

A Name That Resonates With Music
MeisterSinger weaves everything into a classical web, and the brand’s name aligns with that philosophy. The term MeisterSinger originated in the Middle Ages and means ‘master singer’ in German. It was borne from a south German custom, wherein a contestant who came up with a ‘new sound’ at singing competitions was awarded the title of ‘master singer’. The brand logo is an inverted ‘fermata’, a musical symbol that stands for ‘pause’ and connotes a relaxed element in all their watch designs.

The Ingenious German Watchmaking Bandwagon
MeisterSinger will put you in a bit of dilemma when you try to categorise it and place it with other German watch brands. The brand has been creating a buzz since its inception 15 years ago, which for some could be a long enough period to term the brand as established, while for others it is still a fresh millennial brand.
With its German roots, MeisterSinger has joined the bandwagon of brands that boast of exemplary watchmaking from watch houses such as A. Lange & Söhne, Nomos Glashütte, Junghans, Sinn, to name a few. While some of the brands are completely in-house and German thoroughbreds from movement to design, MeisterSinger depends on Swiss movements to power their German watches. But one part of the DNA that binds all German brands together is their unique identity, as they step out of norms laid down by the watch industry, striving for more. While MeisterSinger portrays that in their one-of-a-kind single-hand mechanisms and displays, brands such as Nomos show it in their quirky dial designs and vibrant colours.

The Rise Of The Unique Watch Brand
Weller Manfred Brassler, an autodidact jeweller, is the founder and designer of MeisterSinger and devised the brand in 2001 after being inspired by historic single-hand watches, whose basic premise was to encapsulate the essence of timekeeping and not complicate the process. These watches doled out by the German watchmaker imbibe the best of both worlds and come in all three movements, quartz, manual-winding, and automatic. Based out of Münster – the creative hub of Germany – the watches are designed here and incorporate movements procured from Switzerland, resulting in high-end designs and superlative performances.
Conquering The Watch Connoisseur Circle With The Single-Hand Ingeniousness
The unique selling feature across all MeisterSinger watches is the presence of a single hand to indicate time, modelled after the concept of sundials from the Middle Ages, and tower clocks such as the one on Westminster Abbey in London. This distinctive design element is present in each and every collection and timepiece of the brand. The thoroughly thought-out design of the index is crux of the single-hand watches.

Over 15 years, the brand has evolved and increased its portfolio in leaps and bounds, with an assorted mix. The collections range from their most popular Circularis collection to the Classic collection, which has an old-school charm to it, followed by the Classic Plus collection. Whereas the Urban, Phanero, Neo Plus and Neo series, under the Form and Style collections are more contemporary and vibrant. While some timepieces have an out-and-out sportive appeal, other timepiece have a classic touch with a modern interpretation and mechanical advancements.
Augenweide Watches From The MeisterSinger Collections
Meistersinger Perigraph: One of the first few timepieces to gain recognition internationally, the Meistersinger Perigraph has an intricate date ring, while the red pointer at 12 highlights the current date. The watch has a 43mm case and an uncluttered dial. The clean and simple bezel gives the dial a more expansive appearance. A transparent caseback gives a peek at oscillating mass that propels the impeccable automatic ETA 2824-2 movement.

MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X: Despite being typical MeisterSinger watches with single-hand displays, their precision is absolutely on point. It is the coolest collection from the brand yet, and is a diver’s watch to top that! Built in stainless steel, fitted with a unidirectional bezel, and with a water resistance of 200m, it is exceptionally well designed. The collection is going to spoil you with options as it comes in varied strap textures and dials in several hues.

MeisterSinger Paleograph Chronograph: A MeisterSinger with a twist, this is the blue boy of the brand courtesy its dial, with two chronograph counters that work at the command of the single pusher on the crown itself. The collection is also available with dials in ivory, sunburst silver, or dark blue, but the highlight of the collection is the hand-wound MSH01 movement. The accurate mechanism has a massive power reserve of five days courtesy its twin mainsprings. It’s the perfect watch to have for the nine-to-five working man.

MeisterSinger Circularis Automatik: These new watches from MeisterSinger are like a breath of fresh air, and are fitted with their MSA01 movement, designed by Bassler himself. Courtesy a skeletonised rotor and twin barrels, the watch has a massive power reserve of 120 hours. A watch with several variations, you’ll definitely find one that fits your taste. Available in four exotic-coloured dials in ivory, sapphire blue, anthracite and Bordeaux, they shimmer in light due to their sunburst finish.

MeisterSinger Adhaesio: This watch happens to be the winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2016, reinforcing the brand’s idea of ‘strength of simplicity’. The supremely creative watch has a sunburst blue dial, and is available in other variations. It features a second-time zone and date ring. It runs on a modified ETA 2893-2 movement and has a plethora of colour options in the leather strap.

The Timekeeping On A Single-Hand Watch Decoded
It may make some watch enthusiasts anxious to see a single hand on the dial, however reading time on a MeisterSinger watch is far from rocket science. The dial is divided into 144 markers, of which 15, 30 and 45 are bold and prominent and each marker stands at an interval of five minutes. Combine the position of the needle and the hour marker to simply read the current time.
In some MeisterSinger models, reading time has been made simpler as there is an hour window at 12 o’clock which shows the current hour and the prominent single hand shows the exact minute.

The ‘City kid’ who sparkled in 2017
The highlight from MeisterSinger in 2017 was the City Edition watch, which captured the essence of cities around the world, by working with local jewellers from those cities. ‘The result is 43 localised versions of this watch, from Berlin, Paris, and Jerusalem to New York, Tokyo, and Sydney’, which were showcased in the No. 01 series, a MeisterSinger classic. The limited edition watches have 40mm stainless steel cases with a grey dials and golden hour markers.
With such finesse in their wristwatches, MeisterSinger looks promising and likely to make 2018 their biggest year yet.

Meistersinger makes a grand statement with their powerful 2018 novelties
We have a lot to look forward to from Meistersinger in 2018 with all our undivided attention focused on their 2018 collection. The 2018 novelties from the brand are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, specially designed for those who want to solely keep a track of time which, is made possible by the ‘single’ timekeeping hand. What is really impressive is the fact that the brand has focused on diversity and no two watches look alike and though all look equally exuberant the MeisterSinger Black Line, MeisterSinger Lunascope stood out in particular.
MeisterSinger Black Line
This timepiece explains why ‘dark matter’, matters. The four timepieces in the MeisterSinger classic collection- No.03 Black Line, Perigraph Black Line, Salthora Meta Black Line and Circularis Power Reserve Black Line are jet-black and have achieved a matt finish courtesy the sandblasted treatment meted to the 43 mm cases. The diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating is the reason for the watch’s rock solid and rugged demeanour. The matte black dial serves as a perfect backdrop to highlight the beige Arabic hour markings and a red-tipped hand. The saddle brown leather strap in different colour variations empower the timepieces which cut a striking image.

MeisterSinger Lunascope
MeisterSinger Lunascope is the brand’s very first astronomical watch. The large moon-phase display finds an ideal setting in a 40 mm stainless steel case shielded by Sapphire glass. The watch is a visual treat as the top half of the watch features a feisty moon display window with the moon evolving across a starry background. The Swiss made Lunascope is available in two versions- a sunburst dial in the dark blue of the moon’s background or with a silvery opaline dial. Both the watches have a circular date window at 6 o’clock. The blue dial Lunascope sports a calfskin watchstrap in cognac and the silver dial version exhibits a classic outlooks as it is fitted with a crocodile grain, deep brown leather strap. At the heart of the watch is an automatic ETA 2836 movement which endows the watch with a 38 hour power reserve.

MeisterSinger Meitris
The robust and easy to read Meitris collection scores a perfect 10 in terms of functionality. The timepieces look great when paired with technically anything from a formal blazer to a stripped sweater. The four available models in the collection come in a variation of dial hues ranging from opaline silver, black, ivory, to blue and make for an apt everyday watch that’ll become an indispensable part of your life as soon as it is strapped on. The hour indexes are infused with superluminova and the needle shaped hand has a sharp mien. All watches have a 38 mm stainless steel case, ETA 2824-2 movement and 38 hours of power reserve

MeisterSinger Urban
The ‘city kid’ of the brand has a metropolitan look from the moment you set your eyes on it. The Urban is the brand’s latest collection but retains all the ‘typical’ MeisterSinger attributes. The watch has large Arabic marking for 12, 03, 06, and 09 o’clock against a non-cluttered white dial. The cosmopolitan watch comes with an automatic Miyota 8245 movement and boasts of a mammoth 42 hour power reserve.
