One look at the 2024 releases from the Longines Master Collection, and you are reminded of the phrase, ‘Variety is the spice of life’. At the end of 2024, the brand went all out and released a spate of Longines Master watches bearing certain signatures such as engraved Arabic numeral hour markers and bi-material display, but also subtle distinguishing features such as either 34mm or 40mm case sizes; usage of bi-material bodies in gold or rose gold or steel; plain or diamond encrusted bezels; bi-material metal bracelet or multi-colour leather straps.

Longines Master Collection

Known as the ‘winged hourglass brand’ in watch circles, Longines have created a name with their Master Collection for their classic, uncluttered dials. The Master Collection has come a long way since its inception in 2005. One recent milestone for the collection was the release of three new watches for the brand’s 190th anniversary in 2022. Two years later by end 2024, the Longines Master was extended by a plethora of watches in diverse cases and straps. All the iterations feature sandblasted silver dials engraved either with anthracite, yellow gilt, or rose gilt Arabic numeral hour markers and corresponding hands (hour, minute and seconds); the latter, however, can also appear in blued steel.

A sturdy anti-reflective sapphire glass protects the dial. The 2024 releases come with multiple strap releases. Either a steel or bi-material bracelet (steel capped with yellow gold or rose gold) or leather straps (brown, red, green, or blue). Both the bracelets and straps are fixed with a pusher‑operated, triple‑safety folding clasp.

Longines Master: An Aesthetically Pleasing Movement

The new Longines variants run on the in-house produced self-winding calibre L888.5, involving a silicon balance-spring, an impressive 72 hours of power reserve, and anti-magnetic properties about 10 times more than the ISO 764 reference standard. As observed from the open-worked caseback, this mechanical movement enchants for its delightful mix of finishes in perlage, Côtes de Genève, linear graining and more. It also goes the watch’s overall aesthetic, as the oscillating weight/rotor in each variant is made from the same material matching the case.
