ReviewThree Is A Welcome Crowd: Jacob & Co Epic X Chrono 44MM Tri-Compax

The Jacob & Co Epic X Chrono 44MM Tri-Compax is proof of a successfully evolved watch line that initially featured 47mm case sizes and a bicompax setup

May We Recommend

The Epic X Chrono 44mm Tri-Compax by American Swiss watchmaker Jacob & Co carries forward the iconic ‘X’ claw-shaped lugs innovated in the original Epic X launched in 2015. By ‘X’, it means satin-finished X bars, which connect dual vertical bridges on the dial and extend from the bezel to the lugs. Each timepiece is thus blessed with this ‘X factor’ and becomes the meeting ground of quality horological design, precious metals, and technical solutions. While the original iterations sported 47mm case sizes, the subsequent Epic X Chrono editions since 2023 have showcased a reduced case size of 44mm and have progressed from a bi-compax setup to this latest Epic X Chrono 44MM Tri-Compax variants.

The Watch Guide

Compare to the 2023 launches, the Epic X Chrono Tri-Compax versions feature one additional counter to accommodate three sub-dials: the hour counter at six o’clock; the minutes at three o’clock and small seconds at nine o’clock

The Tri-Compax is operational via the crown with protective guards and two pushers on the right side of the case. Protective sapphire crystals cover the dial and caseback. Time is indicated via baton-shaped skeleton hour and minute hands with Super-LumiNova tips; a long, tall, slim central chronograph seconds hand; and a sloping flange matching the case colour.

A Reliable Movement

The smoked sapphire crystal dial and caseback of the Chrono 44MM Tri-Compax offer direct views of the column-wheel chronograph movement, the skeletal JCAA12. Comprising 264 components, this self-winding movement beats at 28,800vph and offers upto 48 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The ‘start’, ‘stop’ and ‘reset’ pushers are all governed by this beautifully hand-finished movement: angled, polished and drawn.
