Nyon-based luxury watchmakers Hublot are known for their disruptive creations. In 1980, they debuted with a timepiece combining a gold case with a rubber strap—a first to pair these materials. Its case design inspired by a ship’s porthole (hublot in French) set the tone for the brand’s upcoming collections. In 2005, they launched the Big Bang featuring a bezel with signature exposed screws and a multi-layered case structure. In the following years, the Big Bang became their flagship collection, with watches brought out in a variety of materials such as carbon, titanium, ceramic, and sapphire crystal, further strengthening Hublot’s core concept of the ‘Art of fusion’. Continuing their legacy of combining innovative materials with traditional watchmaking, the Swiss brand are now presenting the Big Bang in a new material called ‘Magic Ceramic.’ Limited to only 20 pieces, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic Limited Edition is a multi-coloured ceramic watch, featuring a striking bezel with blue polka dots over a dark grey base, arranged in a random and organic pattern.

Launched in the same year as Big Bang’s 20th anniversary, the Magic Ceramic Limited Edition is touted to be the world’s first multi-coloured ceramic watch. “I feel an immense pride in seeing our team bring to life a material that perfectly embodies Hublot’s soul: a subtle blend of science, alchemy, and playful boldness,” said Hublot’s director of research and development, Mathias Buttet, in an official release, adding, “After more than four years of research, we have mastered the art of combining vivid, patented colours—a true technical feat.”

The Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic Limited Edition
With a diameter of 42mm and thickness of 14.5mm, the black ceramic case of the Magic Ceramic Limited Edition offers a water resistance of up to 100m—similar to the last year’s Big Bang Unico Ice Bang. Featuring a microblasted and polished finishing, it has a stunning presence on the wrist. But the highlight is undoubtedly its dark grey ceramic bezel with blue polka dots. According to the brand, each pigment used for its colour has undergone different temperatures during the baking and moulding processes, resulting in a homogeneous, multi-coloured ceramic bezel. The process by which this abstract art is created is now awaiting a patent.
Similar to the previous Big Bang Unicos, the latest launch features an open-worked dial in matt black, revealing the beating heart underneath. The dial features a 60-minute chronograph register at three o’clock with an integrated date window and a sub-dial at nine o’clock for the running seconds. Additionally, the large Arabic numerals, markers, and the hour and minute hands are filled with Super-LumiNova for greater legibility in low-light conditions.
The Movement Of The Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic Limited Edition
The Magic Ceramic Limited Edition is powered by the in-house HUB1280 Unico calibre, offering an impressive energy reserve of 72 hours. This automatic, flyback movement, consisting of 354 components and 43 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800vph, and can be viewed through the sapphire crystal on the caseback that is otherwise in black ceramic.
Equipped with a ‘one-click’ system, it is presented on a black lined rubber strap, featuring a titanium deployant clasp.
