The story begins in 2009 when Frederique Constant launched its first Runabout watch collection in tribute to the famous Italian runabout boats. In 2013, Frederique Constant partnered with Riva Historical Society, marking the collaboration every two years with a new Classics Runabout limited edition. Each release celebrates the legacy of Riva’s iconic wooden motorboats while contributing to their ongoing preservation. Where earlier Runabout editions leaned on straightforward three-hand or chronograph layouts, the Frederique Constant Classics Runabout Automatic GMT 2026 limited edition elevates this legacy by integrating a Manufacture GMT module into the FC-350 base movement, making it a dual-complication piece with a date display at 6 o’clock and a luminescent arrow-tipped GMT hand. This in-house complication underscores the brand’s mission: fine watchmaking made attainable.

Frederique Constant Classics Runabout Automatic GMT: Two Dials, One Dolce Vita
This new 42mm, polished stainless steel Classics Runabout Automatic GMT comes in two limited editions of 888 pieces each. The deep navy dial on a black strap captures the essence of the effortless glide of the classic Riva yachts across the open Mediterranean Sea, while the teak-brown dial on brown leather evokes the elegance of the legendary mahogany runabout boat decks. Both editions sport vertically striped, satin-finished dials that recreate a Riva foredeck. The dial is fitted within a convex sapphire crystal case and is water-resistant up to 5 ATM.
The dial layout features three concentric rings with the innermost section displaying the 24-hour GMT scale for tracking a second time zone. This design eliminates the need for a separate day-and-night indicator, keeping the dial uncluttered and legibility intact. The central ring combines hand-applied Arabic numerals at 3, 9, and 12 o’clock with slim baton hour markers, using a classic typeface that reflects the timeless character of the Riva Historical Society. Around the edge of the dial, a simple seconds track completes the display.
The FC-350: A Manufacture Complication Worth Talking About
At its heart lies the automatic FC-350 calibre, built on the proven SW200 base and finished with vertical Côtes de Genève on bridges and rotor, visible through a smoked sapphire caseback. The Frederique Constant Classics Runabout Automatic GMT layers a Manufacture GMT module and a date window at 6 o’clock onto that base. With 26 jewels, the movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 38-hour power reserve. On the caseback, the white Riva Historical Society logo appears to float like a pennant in the transalpine wind.
Presentation Fit For A Collector
Each watch is engraved ‘Limited Edition One of 888’ and presented in a special collector’s gift box housing a miniature replica of the iconic Riva boat. On the wrist, the Runabout GMT wears comfortably, thanks to its moderate 12.85mm height and 21mm lug width, equally suited to a boat deck or a boardroom. For anyone drawn to nautical heritage without the price tag of a dive watch icon, this is a compelling, characterful choice.
