ReviewHere Comes The Sun: H. Moser & Cie’s New Sun Berry Celebrates The Colours Of Summer

Their latest combination of hues continues H. Moser & Cie’s streak of treating colour with a difference, as the Sun Berry edition of the Pioneer Centre Seconds represents this evolution, celebrating summer with berry purple and electric yellow

May We Recommend

No one names colour like H. Moser & Cie. do. From their Mad Red, Blue Lagoon and Matrix Green to their Cosmic Green, Smoked Salmon and Purple Haze, their dials make a mark in a big way because of how they present colour. These are their dial colours, whether they’re fumé or solid tones. When they’ve extended their treatment of colour to combinations, the creativity goes further. With the H. Moser & Cie. X Studio Underd0g Passion Project collaboration, the combination of purple and amber hues was likened to the colours of a passion fruit. Then came the Endeavour Pop, which showcased pop-art-inspired colour combinations of natural stones, each with a striking presence. Spiced Aqua followed suit, with the bold combination of orange and turquoise across a range of models. And now, the latest in their colour combinations is Sun Berry.

Sun Berry’s Colours And Summertime

Naturally, colour is key here. And so is summer. Sun and berry are both associated with summer. With strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and even jamuns peaking in the summertime, it’s apt for a summer release. Further to that, the berry purple fumé dial features a sunray finish, connecting the face of the timepiece to the sun-inspired hue around it—literally. The flange is in electric yellow, lending striking contrast.

And to complement this is the yellow Super-LumiNova on the leaf-shaped central hour and minute hands. Moreover, both the hands and the dial flange glow yellow in the dark—quite like the sun, albeit not as bright. What is certainly bright is the abundance of the same electric yellow on the perforated rubber strap. The electric yellow of the Sun Berry is even more yellow than H. Moser’s earlier Sunny-Side Up edition of the Pioneer Centre Seconds.

The automatic calibre HMC 201 offers a power reserve of three days. It features an engraved oscillating mass, partially skeletonised bridges, an anthracite finish and H. Moser’s double stripes

Performance and reliability don’t end there with the Sun Berry. What the water resistance is protecting is the movement within—the automatic calibre HMC 201, which offers a very impressive minimum power reserve of 72 hours or three full days. Furthermore, the movement features H. Moser’s automatic bidirectional pawl winding system and original Straumann hairspring. And as sporty as it is, the movement is still decorated with finesse, with an engraved oscillating mass and partially skeletonised bridges. These, as well as the anthracite finish of the movement and, of course, H. Moser’s signature double stripes, can be seen through the Sun Berry’s exhibition caseback. It’s a fine movement indeed.

But then, fine movements are not only for classical or high-complication timepieces. Fine detailing can certainly go with fun and sporty watches, even those with a vivid splash of colour, as in the Sun Berry. And who knows this better than H. Moser & Cie? A joyful and vibrant timepiece celebrating summer, the Sun Berry definitely exemplifies that.
