SpotlightExceptional Watches Seen At The Oscars 2019

From awards season favourites and stars of Marvel’s Avengers wearing sophisticated dress timepieces, to ambassadors sporting their brands’ new novelties, the 2019 Oscars red carpet presented quite a few interesting timepieces. Here’s a look at a few of them

The gentlemen of tinsel town turned up for Hollywood’s biggest night, on February 24, looking suave in their red carpet best. As has been the case in recent award shows—this season and in those gone by—the tuxedos at the Oscars saw bursts of colour and pattern, with an abundance of velvet—especially in Billy Porter’s tuxedo-gown—and a sea of blue. However, a few went classic in black, and that was the trend seen among the watches as well. There were the customary elegant dress watches, a glittering of vintage gold, a bolt of blue, and a watch for a cause.

Chris Evans | IWC Portugieser Chronograph

The Captain America actor and star of the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame wore a custom-made blue velvet tux from Ferragamo, and looked as dapper as one could imagine. The thorough gentleman stole hearts when he helped actress Regina King go up on stage to accept her supporting actress Oscar for If Beale Street Could Talk. He even held his own when presenting an award with the stunning Jennifer Lopez.

Paul Rudd | IWC Portugieser Automatic

Evans’ Endgame co-star, Paul Rudd made quite the impression on the ‘Twitterati’, who couldn’t get over his ageless appearance. The Antman And The Wasp actor exemplified a classic and understated look with his black-tie ensemble from Canali. To accompany that, he chose to wear a Portugieser with a blue dial—an automatic watch with a power reserve indicator.

Nicholas Hoult | Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic Duoface Large

The star of The Favourite—which had 10 nominations, including one for best picture, and even won the Oscar for lead actress, Olivia Colman—Nicholas Hoult has made sophisticated red carpet appearances through the awards season. The Oscars were no different. The X-Men actor sported an edgy, modern look from Dior, balanced out by its monotone, all-black look. To provide a contrast to this perfectly was a classic Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece in gold.

Adam Driver | Breitling Premier Automatic 40

A supporting actor Oscar nominee for Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, Adam Driver has been an emerging star for a while. With growing recognition comes a growing demand for perfection or flair on any major red carpet, such as the one at the Oscars. This year, the first-time nominee and star of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX chose a classic look, wearing a deep blue tux with black lapels, from Dior Men. He paired the look with a classical dress watch from Breitling’s latest Premier series, staying loyal to the Breitling ‘cinema squad’, which he is a part of.

Bradley Cooper | IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Single Piece

The actor and director of A Star Is Born was there to support his directorial debut that had eight Oscar nominations, including best picture, adapted screenplay and lead actor, for each of which Cooper himself was a nominee. He made a splendid appearance on the red carpet, wearing a classic black-tie ensemble by Tom Ford. He even brought his charm as he took the stage with co-star Lady Gaga to perform the hit song ‘Shallow’ from A Star Is Born, which would go on to win Gaga an Oscar later in the evening. Through this remarkable appearance at the Oscars, Cooper wore an IWC Big Pilot’s watch with a one-of-a-kind engraving.
