Round-UpThe Top 15 Rado Watches In India

Narrowing down the world’s beloved Swiss brand to the top 15 watches

May We Recommend

Time is a bookmark of achievements and failures, and the history of our very own watch industry is a testimony to this. If the quartz crisis left Switzerland’s big and illustrious brands finding their feet in the 70s, it also reinvented Swiss watches. Watch companies were collapsing, falling apart and getting crippled during the quartz era in an unforeseen manner. But there was one brand that rose to the occasion.

Where the biggies were slashing prices and facing difficulties in keeping up with the digital revolution, Rado was the only brand that decided to fight the crisis with its ‘middle-of-the-road’ stance, with watches that offered both substance and affordability. And in a matter of months, a cult brand was born. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Watch Guide is celebrating the world’s beloved Swiss watch brand by giving you 15 of the most popular Rado watches in India with prices, and why you should add at least one (if not more) to your watch collection.

1. Rado Centrix (R30929712)

We’ll kick start the list with a classic and by far the most popular (and recognisable) Rado watch of our times. The black and gold Centrix probably holds the record for being the first Swiss watch for millions, which is possibly why this watch is also the most searched watch on the internet.

The Centrix with its unfazed minimalistic design is the perfect accessory for either a formal or casual attire

The Centrix has held a soft spot in the heart of Rado loyalists for years with its unfazed minimalistic design, making this the perfect accessory for either a formal or casual attire. Ceramic is the primary material of this watch, which is why the classy Centrix is extremely lightweight and comfortable as well. If you’ve never owned a Rado watch before, maybe you should start with this one!

2. Rado Diamaster Grande Seconde (R14129106)

Rado has always experimented with materials and has come up with some of the world’s most untraditional designs. The Rado DiaMaster Grande Seconde is an example of that.

The Diamaster Grande Seconde is a unique and interesting watch from Rado with its two-dial layout

Price: ₹174,350; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

Featuring high-tech ceramic plasma, a material developed and patented by Rado, the Diamaster Grande Seconde is quite extraordinary with its two-dial layout, i.e., instead of a single main dial, the watch has two sub-dials that are intertwined, with two large counters displaying hours and minutes on the right and an oversized billboard for small seconds on the left.

3. Rado Hyperchrome Dual Time (R32165152)

Rado is probably the only Swiss brand capable of making even a technical timepiece look attractive, and so they came up with the ultimate travelling companion – the Hyperchrome Dual Time Automatic. The stylish black & grey themed watch allows reading of two time zones at a glance, courtesy its additional hour hand and inner hour circle. The hour markers have SuperLuminova for enhanced legibility, thereby allowing the wearer to read the time even in pitch darkness. There’s a date display at 3’o clock. Made by a combination of the highest grade of stainless steel and monobloc hi-tech plasma ceramic, this watch is also probably the lightest, most scratch resistant and comfortable dual time watch in its class.

4. Rado True Open Heart Automatic (R27100912)

The Rado True collection showcases the brand’s expertise in ultra-thin timepieces. And we emphasise on ‘ultra-thin’ because Rado True watches take a couple of days for the wearer to get used to (courtesy the delicate looking design). But with time, the pure joy of wearing a very special timepiece kicks in. Rado reassures each wearer that there is no danger in handling this slender looking timepiece and that one can wear it like any regular watch.

The True Open heart was revealed in 2016 with a special dial – a black mother-of-pearl dial that is slightly transparent. Depending on the angle or the lighting conditions, the True Open Heart becomes a skeleton watch or a minimalist timepiece with a black pearl dial. This is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before on any timepiece (let alone Rado)! Reason enough to be on the list.

5. Rado Ceramica (R21347742)

Rado proved that they were pioneers of the ceramic watch design with the Ceramica, a watch that bagged almost every design award in the world. To list a few, the Ceramica has won the Red Dot award twice, the iF Design, Bilan Du Design, the G-Mark Award and the M.I.T.I awards, at least once. Recognised all over the world for its unique design, what makes the Ceramica exclusive is its unibody design, where the case and strap are constructed in high-tech ceramic, ensuring a rock-hard construction. The Ceramica comes in a lot of variations, but it’s this one that has been the most beloved one out of all.

6. Rado Diamaster (R14076112)

The Diamaster is considered to be the most robust watch from the brand and has seen numerous new designs. However, this particular one, which became the new face of Rado, is their most successful one. Featuring a sharp round case made of carbon diffused steel (plasma treated high-tech ceramic), which retains the robustness of the collection, the grey Diamaster isn’t just a smart looking watch, but one that gives excellent value for money. The grey bracelet of this watch is also made of high-tech ceramic, ensuring that the beauty of this timepiece is maintained for generations. You can also adjust the bracelet with its detachable fold over clasp.

7. Rado Coupole Classic (R22877165)

Unless you’ve already noticed, Rado is known (mostly) for their ceramic watches. But if ceramic isn’t your choice of material, you can consider the Coupole Classic – a watch that’s designed with the same aesthetic approach, i.e., understated elegance, minimalist and great looks, but is made of stainless steel.

Rado
The Coupole Classic, which comes with a see-through sapphire crystal case back, is one of the few stainless steel offerings from Rado

Price: ₹79,550; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

‘Coupole’ in French means dome, a name that fits perfectly with this watch because the case, the domed crystal on the front, the dial, and even the hands have curved edges. The black leather strap adds to the finesse of this classic timepiece and is accompanied by a gold PVD buckle that is designed for easy adjustment according to the wearer’s wrist. You can even admire the inner workings of this beauty because the Coupole classic comes with a see-through sapphire crystal case back.

8. Rado Centrix in White (R30554103)

Cousin of the most successful Rado watch ever made – the Centrix in white is as much of a statement piece as its black counterpart. With the same traditional design, the Centrix white is equipped with a fairly sized 38mm gold plated case that contrasts well with the silver coloured dial housing the white and gold index hour markers, done in the same theme.

Rado

Price: ₹64,200; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

The bracelet of this watch has also been given a two-toned look, which not only adds to the aesthetics but also wraps comfortably around the wrist of its wearer.

9. Rado Diamaster Skeleton (R14132122)

As with most Rado watches, the case and bracelet are just as important as what’s housed inside. The skeleton Diamaster is a watch that showcases both in the most daring way possible. A watch that otherwise looks like a stainless-steel watch is actually made of Rado’s patented plasma ceramic, a material that’s exclusive to them. How did it achieve the shine, you ask? Well, plasma ceramic is super-heated to 20,000 degrees Celsius, at which point the material changes colour to resemble a bluish-grey metal. This may sound like an easy task in the beginning but with ceramic, smaller pieces are extremely difficult to manufacture. Both the case and the 5 link bracelet (every little screw) has been completely made out of this material.

Price: ₹331,700; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

Powering this watch is a skeletonised version of the automatic ETA 2892-S2 that is exclusive to Rado and has a healthy power reserve of 42 hours. And because the primary material is ceramic, this timepiece is completely scratch-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about scratching this watch or losing its colour for life.

10. Rado Original (R12949153)

As the name suggests, the Original is a recreation of their vintage timepieces with a modern touch. This particular one is a recreation of their 1963 scratch-proof masterpiece when Rado introduced the world’s first scratch-proof watch. Interestingly, that watch also happened to be the very first timepiece featuring sapphire crystal glass to guard the dial.

Price: ₹83,500; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

What makes this one so recognisable? Well, firstly its gold colour and secondly its oblong case, framed in a round dial and shielded with metal all around – just like the 1963 model. There’s a reason why this watch has made it to our list, as aficionados from around the world are loyalists to this watch. And with rumours doing the rounds that this watch is getting extinct, collectors are getting hold of as many as they can find. Keep an eye on this one!

11. Rado Centrix for Women (R30034712)

This list would never be complete without a ladies’ watch. The Centrix for women retains aesthetics you would expect from a Rado watch and at the same time maintains its chic and modern design. Featuring a two-tone ceramic bracelet, a black ceramic case and a black dial that accommodates gold-tone hands for a sophisticated look, this watch complements any type of attire. The bracelet itself is a thing of beauty, combining luxury and comfort. The ladies can even admire the workings of the watch with its see-through case back.

12. Rado Hyperchrome Tachymeter (R32118102)

The most popular collection for us? Maybe. But for Rado, the Hyperchrome was a challenge and in their words ‘a scientific revolution’. The process involved in creating a Hyperchrome is a bit complicated: a scientific injection moulding that leads to the creation of a monocoque or single piece of ceramic from which not just the case, but the lugs, dial and surrounding brackets are made!

Rado
The Hyperchrome Tachymeter is where Rado expresses its thoughts in black and gold in the most stylish way possible

Price: ₹287,500; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

We’ve picked the smartest of the lot. The Hyperchrome Tachymeter is where Rado expresses its thoughts in grey and gold in the most stylish way – a lustrous grey dial, complemented by gold hour indexes, gold-outlined chronograph counters and a gold crown with pushers. This beauty is secured by a stylish ceramic three-row bracelet, clasped by a threefold titanium buckle.

13. Rado D-Star (R15967162)

A magnificent black and gold watch for men constructed entirely out of black ceramic, the D-star chronograph is classic Rado all the way, but probably one of the few diver’s watches made by the brand.

Rado
The D-star is one of the few diver’s watches ever produced by the brand

Price: ₹175,700; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

Featuring a rotating diver’s bezel, not seen on most mainstream Rado watches, the D-Star comes with a special gold and black bracelet with a titanium deployable double folding clasp. And because it is designed to be a diver’s watch, the D-Star is also water resistant to a depth of 200m.

Featuring a rotating diver’s bezel and water resistance up to 200m, the D-star has all the specs you would expect from a diver’s watch

14. Rado Centrix Chronograph (R30130152)

We love the way Rado keeps even their most complicated watches clean, uncluttered and minimalistic. The Centrix Chronograph is probably the cleanest chronograph money can buy. The Centrix chronograph has an out and out classic Rado design with a 44mm round case made of stainless steel. The hour markers are done in silver, keeping up with the steel and ceramic look, and the bracelet too is made of stainless steel and black ceramic links. But this watch is a lot more than its looks. The Centrix Chronograph can clock timings accurate to 1/10th of a second, which not many in its class can boast of.

15. Rado Hyperchrome 1616 (R32171155)

The Hyperchrome 1616 was unveiled at Baselworld 2016 and to everyone’s surprise, it was unlike anything we’ve seen from Rado.

Rado
The Hyperchrome 1616 is powered by an automatic ETA C07.621 movement that has a phenomenal power reserve of 80 hours

Price: ₹174,350; for queries on this watch, please call +91 8725028888

The Hyperchrome 1616 is, in fact, a recreation of Rado’s vintage Cape Horn collection and was launched to mark the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Cape Horn in South America. Rado calls it an ‘audacious’ timepiece, which is true because the case of the 1616 is 46mm! But despite its overall chunky look, the watch on the flipside is extremely light and comfortable. In addition to this, the Hyperchrome 1616 is powered by an automatic ETA C07.621 movement that has a phenomenal power reserve of 80 hours.
