ReviewIntroducing: Titoni Master Series Moonphase – A Great Chronometer with a unique combination of complications

An exclusive hands on review of the Master Series Moonphase - A classic watch with a modern touch

May We Recommend

Moon phase – the timeless charm of this artistic complication, even in this technologically advanced day and age, makes us realise how our lives are still dictated and revolve around the sun and the moon. This complication, however, has mostly been an aspiring one to own because most great moon phase watches can burn a big hole in your pocket. Finding an affordable moon phase watch is a challenge indeed. And even then, most Moon phase watches wouldn’t have a central second; finding one with a complete calendar narrows the search even further and finding one with a certified chronometer makes the task even more difficult.

Then, of course, there is the difficulty of finding something worthy of an occasion, in the desired price range.  But what if we told you there’s a watch that has all the above complications, is definitely accessible and is a COSC Certified chronometer?

Say no more, the Titoni Master Series Moon phase is here.

The Titoni Master Series Moonphase is one of the most interesting moonphase watches in the market today

Titoni – Masters of Swiss Precision for more than 9 decades:

Titoni, back in the 60s was the only Swiss watchmaker that ruled the watch business in India and Asia, as a whole. A 100% independent, fully owned, Swiss watchmaker, active in the mid-range market segment for almost 97 years now, and perhaps the only one with a motto that “You don’t need to be a billionaire to own a beautiful watch.”

“Our heritage is the cornerstone for the development and creation of timeless models…We consider this long-standing tradition of making high-quality timepieces at affordable prices to be an obligation to our clients.”

- Daniel Schluep, CEO

After exiting India during the emergency, Titoni returned this year with over 220 different watches, spread over 12 different collections. But keeping the numbers aside, they revealed their newest masterpiece that will please most watch lovers, the Master Series 94788 S-ST-367.

The Design – A Beautifully Crafted Dial:

The sunray brushed white dial with silver applied indexes creates an enthralling balance between classical elegance and sportive modernity. The blue moon phase indicator adds a dash of colour to the classic design of the dial and is very welcome to the classic yet modern theme of the watch. The hours on the Master Series are denoted by polished silver indices.

A Unique Complication – Complete Calendar Moonphase with Pointer Date:

But if you haven’t noticed already, the watch does more than just time-telling, because what’s unique about this watch is the way it displays the date: with the day and month display at 12 o’ clock, the date is indicated by a separate date hand, having a red crescent-shaped tip and is denoted by the numbers placed in the inner section of the dial. Subtle yet very revolutionary, also unique considering we don’t get to see this very often in modern day watches.

The Specs – A Certified COSC Chronometer with 3 unique complications:

The 40mm steel case is home to an officially certified COSC automatic chronometer Soprod 9000 – A forerunner in the production of exquisite mechanical movements. For those who aren’t aware, Soprod is dedicated to the manufacturing of calibres that cater to independent brands in Switzerland and thus, Titoni have ensured that the wearer receives not just a reliable automatic movement, but one that’s certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres, the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, which is responsible for certifying the accuracy and precision of wristwatches in Switzerland through the most rigorous of tests.

In terms of durability, the watch is water resistant up to 100 meters and is complemented with a polished five-link bracelet with a double folded butterfly-clasp.

Titoni: An independent Swiss watchmaker with a 97-year-old rich heritage:

Stationed at the foot of the Jura Mountains in Grenchen, Switzerland, Titoni is among the few Swiss watch brands that are still family-owned to this day. With a long history spanning 97 years (the brand was founded in 1919 by Fritz Schluep under the name Felca AG), Titoni specialises in uncompromising Swiss Made watchmaking quality. Over the years the brand has swiftly moved with the times and has acquired a reputation of specialising in mechanical watches with the highest priority on quality.

Titoni and India – The country’s first Swiss Watch

Titoni watches have a long history with India. In fact, Titoni was one of the first Swiss companies actively doing business in India. Titoni started selling watches just after India gained its independence, and it’s popularity was unparalleled in the 1950’s and 60’s . However in 1975, during the emergency crisis, the brand had to leave citing unfavourable conditions.

After a break of over four decades, Ethos was able to convince the owner to return and bring its watches back India. You can discover their entire collection here.
