Hublot is a luxury brand that dared to be different and redefined the ‘traditional’ style of watchmaking. It is one of the few brands that took the plunge, not 100 of years ago but as recently as in 1980 and disrupted the concept of ‘conventional’! Known for their ‘Art of fusion’, you can explore Hublot’s Big Bang watch collection available online in India at Ethos Watch Boutiques.

Since its inception, Hublot had a lot to prove and the strategy was simple – break the clutter with uniqueness. Their tryst with unusual watch materials and atypical designs paved their way for success in their debut year itself. The rubber strap that we dote on was Hublot’s gift to the watch world. The innovation garnered immense popularity and sales worth $2 million in its first year.

The Spirit Of Big Bang

It has been over a decade since the brand introduced their quintessential collection – the Hublot Big Bang – a collection comprising striking, exquisite timepieces, packed with powerful performance. Its sheer aesthetics propel the collection into to any watch aficionado’s arsenal of collectives.

The Big Bang assemblage is Jean-Claude Biver’s brainchild, which he unveiled as Hublot’s CEO in 2005. Due to his immense engrossment in fine watchmaking, today Biver is the president of the entire LVMH watch division (including brands such as TAG Heuer, Hublot, and Zenith), and also serves as TAG Heuer’s CEO. Within a year of joining Hublot, back in 2005, ‘he had achieved the tour de force of launching a revolutionary chronograph: the Big Bang.’

The splendid collection deserves to be adorned only by the best. It’s no surprise then that the Big Bang has seen some of the most famous ambassadors, ranging across the worlds of music and sports. A few on the Big Bang ambassadors’ bandwagon are Sebastian Vettel, Dustin Johnson, Usain Bolt, Bar Refaeli, and Maxim Buchi.

The Hublot brand ambassadors are the best in their field just like the brand they represent. From sports to music, the Big Bang ambassadors’ bandwagon includes Sebastian Vettel, Dustin Johnson, Usain Bolt, Bar Refaeli, and Maxim Buchi.

Everyone loves Hublot and Hublot loves football. The brand’s affiliation and inclination towards football is eloquently sprayed across its timepieces too. Hublot was the official timekeeper for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Hublot has partnered with some of the most elite football clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Ajax and most recently they signed up as the official timekeepers for the Portuguese soccer side Benfica. All the association with football clearly called for a special Big Bang watch, which Hublot did launch – the Big Bang Unico Chrono Bi-Retrograde, aptly named ‘Soccer Bang’.

Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Unico Carbon

Drop the term, ‘Formula One’, and it rings a bell for Hublot instantly! There is no better brand to associate racing with. It has all the attributes of F1 – it’s fast, agile and light. Ferrari has ensnared the boasting rights to partner with Hublot and it is not a flimsy association as the deal is entering its sixth year. The tie-up between Ferrari and Hublot was again, Biver’s idea. His belief was that it is ‘only Hublot that could make the car-and-watch relationship perfect’.

The Hublot Big Bang Ferrari collection is a bold, powerful watch. It has all the attributes of F1 – it’s fast, agile and light. Hublot has generously lauded its partner Ferrari and that includes the launch of the Big Bang Unico Carbon.

Perks of partnering with Hublot include a timepiece to honour the association. Hublot has generously lauded its partner Ferrari and that includes the launch of the Big Bang Unico Carbon. A major boost for Hublot, the Ferrari range comes in three versions: titanium, king gold and carbon fibre. Though they are manufactured in-house, every model is vastly different from the other, due to the clever use of alternative elements in each.

The Case:

Sportiest of all three, the deep black carbon fibre case is enigmatic. By streamlining the pushers, Hublot has made the case a whole lot sleeker. A red line running along the case has a striking presence and pleases every Ferrari fan as it is the flagship of the Italian brand. Burly at 45mm, the case is sturdy, as it sits comfortably on the wrist.

The Dial:

Refined to the core, the black skeletonised dial offers a peek at the intricate Hublot movement. On the über-cool dial, the 60-minute chronograph encloses the date window against a yellow backdrop. The Ferrari horse is seen prancing elegantly at six o’clock.

The Movement And Strap:

The inner workings of the Ferrari Unico Carbon is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. It is powered by a self-winding UNICO automatic movement and a mighty power reserve of 72 hours. The strap is in alliance with the whole Ferrari race look – in black rubber, with the red stitches running down the black Alcantara strap. It is secured onto the wrist with a matte-black, carbon, PVD-plated titanium deployment clasp.

Hublot Unico Magic Sapphire

‘The total wholeness of the visible and the invisible’ is all capsulated in the transparency of Magic Sapphire. This watch scales a new pinnacle and sets a benchmark courtesy its distinctive ‘aesthetic and chromatic codes’. Hublot has experimented with different elements in the past, but it has mastered the art of machining one innovative material i.e. sapphire crystal. The ‘less is more’ appearance of the watch is drawn from the simplified make of the case. The watch is an amalgamation of the Big Bang Unico Sapphire and Big Bang Unico Sapphire All Black models.

 The Case:

Hublot has incorporated their complete savoir-faire in the making of the complex, most scratch-resistant and durable case. ‘Between the visible and the invisible’, the case is greatly shock resistant, as the bezel and the back are made of one single component. A case size of 45mm is one that demands attention and the Unico Magic Sapphire commands it doubly, owing to a rarely used crystalline creative genius – sapphire crystal.

The Dial:

In contrast to the thematic transparency of the watch is the black dial at the centre. Mysterious and striking, the dial demonstrates ‘aesthetic “black magic” codes’. It’s a skeleton dial with a red seconds hand and open-worked hour and minute hands. However, the fun element lies in the depiction of the date aperture which is an open-dial work of art for mechanically-inclined watch enthusiasts. It sits amidst a 60-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock.

‘Between the visible and the invisible’, the case is greatly shock resistant. A case size of 45mm is one that demands attention and the Unico Magic Sapphire commands it doubly. The transparent and skeletal dial speaks eloquently of Hublot’s confidence in their impeccable movement.

The Movement:

The fact that Hublot shows off the movement in this timepiece through the transparent and skeletal dial speaks eloquently of their confidence in their impeccable movement. The flyback chronograph and the column wheel visible through the dial are fuelled by an in-house HUB1242 UNICO movement and can last up to 72 hours.

Hublot Big Bang UNICO GMT

“Every complex problem has a simple solution. It simply depends on how we look at it,” says Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO, Hublot. Hublot is not all about jaw-dropping appearances when it comes to watches. The brand packs a powerful performance in all their chronometers.

What’s special in the UNICO GMT? Its ingenuity lies in its simplicity, providing a practical solution to a complex problem for its beholder – a quintessential watch for the current generation bitten by the travel bug. It is child’s play to operate the second time zone at the behest of just one push button.

A problem solver: The uniqueness of the UNICO GMT lies in its simplicity, providing a practical solution to a complex problem for its beholder

The Case:

The GMT Big Bang is available in two case options – carbon fibre and titanium – in 45mm. A different version as compared to any other chronograph, the push buttons are remodelled and presented in a distinguished rectangular shape to make the functioning simpler. The GMT pusher eliminates its association with the minute or second’s hand, thus not affecting the time settings.

‘Each press of the push-button at two o’clock moves the time forward by one hour; the one at four o’clock moves it back.’ The local time is signalled by the main hand, the arrow-shaped hand indicates the time at home, and the day/night disc makes deciphering between AM and PM simple.

The Dial:

Utterly swanky, unlike any Big Bang watch you’ve seen before, the designers at Hublot have clearly meddled with the case, but all for a positive outcome that lends the watch an identity of its own. Hours are represented in a 12-hour Arabic numeral format. The interesting catch is that they are alternatively showcased – the even numbers on the dial and the odd numbers on the bezel. This functional aspect scores a ten in terms of ingenuity. The skeletonised dial is arresting in anthracite grey and blue accents.

The dial of the Hublot GMT is unlike any other Big Bang dial. Hours are represented in a 12-hour Arabic numeral format with even numbers on the dial and odd on the bezel. Powered by a futuristic  HUB 1251 UNICO  movement, it is transformed to integrate the GMT function.

The Movement:

The self-winding HUB 1251 UNICO is a one-of-a-kind, futuristic movement. Developed in-house by Hublot, it is transformed to integrate the GMT function. Endowed with 358 components, the watch has a mammoth 72-hour power reserve. Equipped with the adroit ‘one-click’ interchangeable strap system, the GMT UNICO is a high-end treasured trinket for any watch enthusiast.

Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu Full Pavé

The Sang Bleu is an idiosyncratic collaboration between Hublot and the world-renowned tattoo artist Maxime Buchi. The connection is enough to signal just how staggering this timepiece is, forming a glass and metal sculpture created by the artist himself. Sang Bleu Full Pavé is a statement watch and represents an experience ‘that goes beyond tattooing’. The common thread between the tattoo studio, Sang Bleu, and Hublot is the constant drive to master the ‘art of fusion’, and this association is a match made in heaven!

For the sake of ‘Art of Fusion’ Sang Bleu Full Pavé is a statement watch that marks the collaboration between Hublot and the world-renowned tattoo artist Maxime Buchi.

 The Case:

Bevelled lines and a three-dimensional effect, mused after Buchi’s tattooing aesthetic, make for a visually spectacular case. The hexagonal bezel is a refreshing geometric mould that constitutes the 45mm, satin-finished titanium case. The exotic Full Pavé model has 256 diamonds (0.80 carats) on the case, while another 132 diamonds (1.73 carats) encrusted on the hexagonal bezel. The watch, for its sheer aesthetics, is magnificent.

The Dial:

‘Expect the unexpected’ is how one would define the dial of this Big Bang watch. It breaks the conventional format of showcasing time by replacing the traditional hands with three octagonal discs. Clearly inspired by Buchi’s artwork, the design motifs are juxtaposed against the matte black dial. Even the font of the Arabic numerals projected on the rim of the dial is

created by the Swiss artist’s own typeface agency. The highlighted triangle on the hour and minute discs make it possible to read time.

The Movement:

The movement has been redesigned too, with the rotor housing triangular elements from the Sang Bleu logo. The UNICO HUB1213 is an automatic, self-winding movement driven by 255 components, including 28 jewels, and a power reserve of 72 hours. The watch is water resistant up to 100m. ‘Black rubber and Schedoni leather straps’ are every inch stylish and the artistic aspect is drawn out from the logo embedded on it. In a gradient grey, the strap is completed with a titanium deployment clasp.

The Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu is available in online at Ethos Watch Boutiques.

Hublot Steel Ceramic:

The Hublot Steel Ceramic is the epitome of the ‘Art of fusion’, the mantra that Big Bang is based upon. The watch is an amalgamation of steel, ceramic, resin, carbon fibre, and rubber – all seamlessly intertwined. Big Bang has evolved immensely over the years but there is no other watch that can replace this trendsetter that set the ball rolling on the style of big watches. The watch is a union of texture and an interplay of elements.

The Hublot Steel Ceramic is the epitome of the ‘Art of fusion’. The watch is a union of texture and an interplay of elements. The combination of black and white metals lends the watch the peculiar flamboyant Big Bang trait.

 The Case:

The satin-finished stainless steel case makes the Hublot Steel Ceramic a versatile timepiece, even as the case exudes an intense sportive outlook. A noteworthy aspect is the size of the case, which Hublot took charge to introduce to the world. Eight years ago, 44m case was considered bulky. Now, even on a masculine wrist, it is considered scaled-down.

The combination of black and white metals lends the watch the peculiar flamboyant Big Bang trait. The resin inserts in the gasket of the bezel provide minute details. The hobnail knurling and the patented titanium ‘H’ screws work really well in favour of the aesthetics that a luxury watch from Hublot demands.

The Dial:

Back when the Big Bang Steel Ceramic was launched, carbon fibre was particularly unheard of. However, post Hublot’s incorporation of the material in their watch dials, watch admirers got fixated on the good-looking element. The dial is the refreshed version of the original Big Bang. As compared to its predecessor, it is way cleaner and more legible. The weave pattern on the black dial creates a holographic visual extravaganza.

The Hublot Big Bang Fusion is responsible for introducing carbon fibre in a watch dial and leaving watch enthusiasts absolutely fixated on the new element. Rocking the key Big Bang rubber strap innovation, the Hublot Steel Ceramic is no different. The rubber strap is embossed with a tread-like pattern that makes a vigorous impression.

Fuelled by white lume, the hour indices and the timekeeping hands are visible even in less ambient light or its complete absence. The chronograph counters on the dial are sparsely placed and the date window sits diagonally between four and five o’clock. The dial, all in all, has an industrial sensitivity to it.

The Movement:

The automatic movement on the Hublot steel ceramic is the HUB 4100 calibre – a modified Swiss ETA chronograph movement that is visible through the sapphire glass caseback. Not as advanced as the current movement in Hublot timepieces, it offers a reasonable power reserve of 42 hours. Rocking the key Big Bang rubber strap innovation, the Hublot Steel Ceramic is no different. The rubber strap is embossed with a tread-like pattern that makes a vigorous impression. Extremely solid and secure on the wrist, the watch is fastened by a thick-set stainless steel, single-fold deployment clasp.

The Hublot Big Bang steel ceramic is available in India at Ethos Watch Boutiques.
