On the 30th anniversary of his death, to commemorate the legend that Senna was, TAG Heuer release the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon X Senna edition. Using the recent Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport timepiece as reference for its framework, the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon X Senna edition is a quintessential Carrera watch with distinct nods to the racing legend. Tribute To The Track: TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon X Senna
After joining forces with Ayrton Senna in 1988, TAG Heuer celebrated his subsequent world championships with commemorative timepieces. The latest TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon X Senna timepiece coincides with the fictionalised Netflix limited series, Senna, based on the Brazilian racer’s relatively short—yet meaningful—journey. Even the lead character in the Netflix series is brought to life by TAG Heuer brand ambassador Gabriel Leone. Heritage Heuer watches—such as the Senna S/EL Link Chronograph S25.706C—also feature in important roles in the series.
Pushing Boundaries, Every Day: TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon X Senna
The 44mm titanium case of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon X Senna edition features brushed and sandblasted surfaces. Its facetted profile is paired with an angular strap in blue rubber to match highlights on the dial. On a forged carbon bezel, the word ‘Senna’ stands out in yellow at one o’clock. Also featured here is a white tachymeter scale reaching 400 kmph as reference to Senna’s top speeds. A green lacquered ring sits on the crown which is flanked by pushers on the right of the case. And a partially transparent caseback etched with an image of Senna in a racing helmet offers a view of the calibre TH20-09 inside. With a water resistance of 100m, the watch is hardy enough for daily wear.
The open-worked dial reveals bridges connecting a 30-minute chronograph recorder at three o’clock and a 12-hour counter at nine, with the Senna ‘S’ logo in yellow. Hands on these recorders, along with a central chronograph hand, stand out in yellow, while timekeeping hands and indexes are generously filled with Super-LumiNova. At six o’clock is the one-minute tourbillon.
Released in a limited edition of 500 pieces in collaboration with the Senna Brand, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon X Senna timepiece is a fitting tribute to a racing legend. “This timepiece embodies the passion and precision that defined [Senna’s] remarkable journey,” says TAG Heuer CEO Antoine Pin.
