ReviewFollow A Different Tangent With The New Nomos Tangente Sport

Nomos Glashütte goes sporty! The German watch brand presents its emblematic Tangente Classic in a larger and more robust avatar—the Tangente Sport Neomatik 42 Date. Designed in two colourways, these Neomatik timepieces are apt for all-day wearability, owing to the new tailor-made bracelet

Nomos Glashütte, a relatively young brand that started out on its horological journey only in January 1990, is widely proclaimed for clinching global awards and recognition as abundantly as it is known for conjuring spectacular design forms in its offerings.

Taking design cues from its sibling—a 25-year-old Nomos icon, the Tangente Classic— the Nomos Tangente Sport Neomatik 42 Date comes with an all-new bracelet made from solid stainless steel links

At Baselworld this year, the German watchmaker made quite a splash with two new sports watches under the Tangente Sport Neomatik 42 Date epithet. These remarkably robust timepieces borrow design cues from their sibling, a 25-year-old Nomos icon, the Tangente Classic. However, what adds to the resilience is the all-new bracelet made from solid stainless steel links. The cool, extremely slender and tailor-made bracelet has been integrated for the first time in a Nomos watch.

Form Follows Function

Presented in two stunning 42mm variants—silver-plated classic white, and marine black—the galvanised Tangente Sport dials immediately catch the eye. Laden with striking typography, the form of these watches is perfectly proportioned, even with functions such as the date window at three o’clock and the enhanced Super-LumiNova in the rhodium-plated hands that is particularly useful if this 300m-water resistant timepiece is actually taken underwater.

Equipped with a 42-hour power reserve, these watches run on the slender DUW 6101, an in-house Neomatik calibre with automatic winding with 27 jewels. The Neomatik date mechanism comes with a bidirectional quick-correction feature. This durable movement can be appreciated through the sapphire crystal caseback.

Bracing The New

Evidently, the show stealer in these novelties is the Nomos Sport bracelet that lends soothing aesthetics and a certain kind of familiarity to the wearer. Maybe it’s because of the particular attention to comfort that the watchmaker has paid while developing this strap. Here, 145 steel pieces are screwed together to make it one of the most wearable straps in the market. The deployant clasp, also made in-house, enhances the watch’s utilitarian aesthetic. “The strap is fantastic to wear. We found this particularly important with a watch of this weight,” shares Heike Ahrendt, head of product management for Nomos. The watches come packaged in a lovely and protective black leather wallet that is worth coveting.

As the brand’s CEO Uwe Ahrendt puts it, “The new Sport watches are of really high quality, especially with the bracelet and the 1,000ft water resistance. They’re really elegant still, thanks to the calibre DUW 6101, which is only 3.6mm thick. People have been asking for a Nomos bracelet for 20 years and we’ve finally come out with one.”
