A Flurry Of Exciting Advancements In TAG Heuer’s Collections
Today the Baselworld fair opened its doors to the public with full fervour. One exciting booth, in particular, was TAG Heuer’s, as its CEO, Jean-Claude Biver addressed a press conference to announce the biggest highlights for the brand this year.

We had already informed you that TAG is celebrating the 55th anniversary of the iconic, motor-racing-inspired Carrera collection. And we had also given you a sneak peek of the new commemorative watches featuring the new Heuer 02 calibre manufacture movement. However, what the brand saved for the fair itself is the ‘Tête de Vipère’ Chronograph Tourbillon Chronometer.

The name of this watch itself is quite overwhelming, and when you look at it, anyone would be baffled by its gorgeous appearance. With the chronograph counter, small seconds sub-dial and tourbillon cage – at three, nine and six, respectively – the dial is perfectly balanced. But what makes this watch absolutely unique is the beautiful combination of grey and blue. The name of the watch comes from the prestigious ‘Tête de Vipère’ stamp of excellence, a distinction extended to TAG Heuer by the Besançon Observatory, which operates on behalf of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. This is the first TAG Heuer chronograph that has earned this award.

Of course, there was also the new Carrera GMT with the Heuer 02 manufacture calibre, which mirrors the colour palette of the Chronograph Tourbillon but interprets it in a sportier avatar. The red lacquered GMT hand stands out in this stunning timepiece. And keeping with the times, TAG Heuer also introduced their new iTAG connected display, which makes shopping for TAG Heuer watches at select retail outlets a state-of-the-art experience. Biver spoke about digitisation being high on priority for the brand. “We have to evolve and adapt to stay relevant. If we need to know what the future is, we need to know what the 15-year-olds are doing,” he said.
Kick Off A World Of Fun With Hublot’s New Smartwatch

Another brand that Biver oversees, as president of the LVMH watch division – Hublot – made large strides in the digital space as well. Hublot joins the league of luxury brands that make high-end smartwatches, with their new Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia watch, designed specifically for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. At 49mm, the timepiece is large and may seem overbearing, but that is still very much in keeping with the brand’s image of bold and audacious products. The smartwatch will work with Android as well as with iOS-driven products.

Big and bold wasn’t all that they showed. Hublot also presented their new Big Bang Unico in an all-new case size of 43mm, 2mm smaller than its 45mm predecessor. This opens up the Unico to being worn by those with smaller wrists as well. Those who prefer the 45mm case need not be disappointed, as that version has also been upgraded. The new versions in both sizes are available in various material combinations, including Hublot’s signature King Gold alloy.
Another watch from Hublot that has gone smaller this year is the Classic Fusion for ladies, which is now at 36mm – and that’s tiny when we’re talking about Hublot. With the launch of this timepiece, Hublot’s definitely not for only those who like chunky watches.

Another big highlight of the year for Hublot is the Big Bang Unico Red Magic. On seeing it up close, I was convinced of its visual richness and the durability of its high-tech ceramic. Ceramic is also seen in the Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski, named after its designer Richard Orlinski, based on his artistic vision. The watch has also been created in titanium, with or without diamonds.
If we’re lucky, we might get a chance to have a conversation with the artist later at Baselworld. So check back here for more on the Orinski timepieces, and also follow us here for all the latest updates from Baselworld 2018. We’ll be sure to keep them coming.
