Spring is finally in the air and to celebrate the cherry blossom season in Japan that is one of the biggest highlights of the country where the Japanese brand Seiko was born, there are two new updates capturing this beautiful natural splendour. Infusing the beautiful colours and textures of this natural phenomenon into another one of its many nature-inspired timepieces, Grand Seiko have introduced two new mechanical watches. The two new mechanical timepieces, Grand Seiko Cherry Blossom STGK031 and STGK033, are part of the Heritage Collection and a fresh interpretation of the brand’s classic design 62GS. This design was Grand Seiko’s first automatic mechanical watch launched in 1967 with a distinctive bezel-free design that integrates the glass with the case. The new petite dimensions are the smallest and slimmest in the brand’s portfolio today.
Capturing the serene colours of the cherry blossoms and the springtime landscape surrounding the brand’s Studio Shizukuishi—where their mechanical watches are made—the new timepieces feature textured dials, one of Grand Seiko’s fortes, and the first ever compact case sizes of 30mm, born out of the current demand for smaller sizes. One watch captures the Sakura-Kakushi phenomenon, where the blushing pink petals of cherry blossom can be seen from underneath a blanket of freshly fallen snow, and the other one captures the hazy moonlit sky illuminating the delicate Sakura petals on a spring night. For a modern individual, what’s most appealing is the simple and pared-back design of the stainless steel models that make for the perfect sporty-meets-dressy options for any watch collection.
