Edox is the operating name for the Swiss watchmaker officially known as the Era Watch Company. The brand was founded in 1884 in Switzerland and today produces almost 90,000 watches every year. Edox has a close relationship with sporting events. The brand is the official timekeeper of the Dakar Rally, World Curling Federation, Extreme Sailing Series and of course, the Class-1 Powerboat Championships.

The Class-1 races are considered worldwide as the ultimate sporting event in offshore powerboat racing. The powerboats used in these races weigh around 5 tonnes each and are built with extreme precision and refinement to create the fastest machines in the sea. The Edox Class-1 Chronoffshore Automatic is designed with the same attention to detail and engineering precision that is characteristic of the powerboats.

The Edox Class-1 collection is one of the most famous of the brand’s collections and has always been highly appreciated by fans of Class-1 racing. The watch makes use of a great deal of ceramic, a material that is used generously in creating powerboats for the ultimate sea races. One of the more striking references to powerboat racing is on the caseback, which has been designed in the style of the propeller that is used in the Class-1 racing powerboats.

Being a watch designed for ocean racing, the timepiece is water resistant to a depth of 500 metres, which means you could easily take it scuba diving if you ever feel the inclination to do so. Edox has even gone to the length of fitting a helium escape valve into the timepiece, which means that this watch can be used effectively by professional deep sea divers. The Edox Class-1 Chronoffshore Automatic also has a high degree of shock resistance, which is quite a handy feature considering that the watch is designed for the powerboat world championships.

The Class-1 Chronoffshore is powered by the Edox 011 movement, which is housed in a 45 mm round stainless steel case with a black ceramic bezel. The dial is chequered black and white and marked with nickel indexes. A large, red coloured ‘1’ is marked in Arabic numerals at the 1 o’clock position to signify the name of the collection and as a reference to the Class-1 powerboat races. Three sub-dials display chronograph hours, minutes and seconds. The dial is covered with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that is coated with anti-reflective treatment. The strap is made of black rubber.
