The coveted in-line baguette movement of the Golden Bridge collection houses itself in yet another fascinating timepiece that encapsulates elements of the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
May We Recommend
An architectural marvel, the epitome of contemporary design and a power-packed performer – Corum, at Baselworld 2017, gave us a watch that defines all of the aforementioned. We present, the Golden Bridge Stream Bridge Automatic.
While the in-line baguette movement of the Golden Bridge surfaced in 1980, the collection has only evolved ever since, and its latest offering lives up to the iconic status of the Golden Bridge. The linear baguette movement has been such a hit among watch connoisseurs that it has become synonymous with Corum.
Corum took a detour last year from the tonneau case – typically seen in contemporary Golden Bridge designs – and introduced the Corum Golden Bridge Round. And this year has marked the comeback of two Golden Bridge shapes, with the introduction of the Corum Golden Bridge Rectangle and the new Stream Bridge.
Corum’s Tryst With Ingenious Designs
This is not the first time Corum has left us gaping in amazement at its ingenuity and extraordinary concept that merges with advanced watchmaking technology. Take the aristocratic collectable, the Corum Coin collection for instance, which has been the choice of many an American president, be it Nixon, Bush, Johnson, or Clinton. And why wouldn’t it! Corum’s innovation with this watch was setting an ultra-thin movement in a real 22-carat American Double Eagle gold coin, which also serves as its dial.
Another prodigious timepiece belted out from the house of Corum is the Admiral’s Cup Collection, the flagship range that introduced a completely new, square-shaped case and then upped the game with its now signature dodecagonal case.
Corum is precisely a ground-breaking brand that does not conform to any guidelines in the world of watches. Instead, it believes in creating disruptive designs, such as the Chinese woman’s hat watch or the Rolls-Royce watch, carving a strong niche for itself in the watch industry.
The Golden Bridge Movement
Before we proceed to the design aspects, we must talk about what makes this watch so special – the movement at the heart of the watch. The original linear baguette movement of the Golden Bridge was launched in collaboration with Vincent Calabrese in 1980, but the contemporary robust movement was re-done from scratch by Laurent Besse, who saw San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge as his muse.
The mechanism powering Corum’s Golden Bridge watch was ‘the first and only in-line baguette movement on the market’, and its Stream Bridge rendition is a CO 113 automatic movement. The movement is regulated by two linear weights that are placed parallel to each other and the friction created by them lends the barrel with power to run the watch.

Corum evidently takes pride in showing off its spectacular movement and hence the Golden Bridge Stream has a 360-degree visual access to the mechanism. Engraved with ‘Corum’, the movement offers a power reserve of up to 40 hours and is water resistant to 30m.
The Dial
The dial emulates the top craftsmanship that Corum is capable of. The dial of this timepiece, like the Corum Coin watch, encapsulates a poignant architectural milestone in American history. The see-through dial is intricately designed and shows a 5N microstructure – a representation of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Two parallel hand-engraved structures akin to bridge rails have a superb linear and interweaved blend, constructed of 18-carat gold. The lateral representation emulates 1.2 million steel rivets that hold together the famous San Francisco Bridge.
While the movement design has a complicated outlook, the dial simply has baton-shaped, hour and minute hands. The faceted hands are rhodium-plated with a diamond polish. Owing to this treatment, the legibility is extremely on point despite the sole presence of the timekeeping hands and the absence of hour markers.
The Case
The Corum Golden Bridge Stream is not a case of the movement taking it all. It is a timepiece wherein every aspect comes together to create a visual spectacle. The curvy 18-carat rose gold case is a testament to that. The 42mm case redefines class, even from a functional standpoint, as the curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal allows an uninterrupted look at the bridge décor.
Consistent with its outré reputation, Corum Golden bridge has yet another unusual trait. Corum and Golden Bridge enthusiasts would be familiar with this element on the case. Well, if you’ve not already guessed it, we are referring to the unique positioning of the crown. The crown is not at its usual position ie on the side of the case. It is placed at the bottom of the case beneath six o’clock, which creates a beautiful symmetry.
The caseback echoes Corum’s attention to detail as the glare-proof sapphire crystal fitted at the back allows the beholder to observe the ‘18K’ and ‘Swiss’ etched at the back.
The Strap
The Golden Bridge Stream comes with an alligator leather strap and a triple-folding clasp. The brown leather strap choice is a wise one on Corum’s part as there could have been no better hue to complement the 18-carat rose gold that the watch is built with.
This golden boy from Corum is bound to catch any watch enthusiast’s fancy. Limited to just 88 pieces, the Corum Golden Bridge Stream Bridge Automatic is truly a collector’s piece, without an iota of doubt.
