Round-UpThe 10 Most Exquisite Gold Watches From Hublot, The Swiss Watchmaker That Never Stops Innovating

Hublot has experienced a tremendous run in the luxury watch industry since its inception in 1980. We study what constitutes the brand’s DNA, its recipe for success and its repertoire of gold watches

May We Recommend

“Being unique is what gives Hublot its extraordinary strength, through the incredible commitment expressed by every single person who works for the brand.” – Jean-Claude Biver, chairman of Hublot and president of the LVMH Group’s watch division

The year 1980 marked the birth of the Swiss luxury watchmaking company Hublot. It was founded by Italian Carlo Crocco, from the dynasty of the Binda Group, best known for their Breil watches. In 1976, he decided to form his own watch company. In late 2003, Jean-Claude Biver, the former president of Swatch Group’s Omega watches, took over the position of chief executive officer. The company currently operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of France’s LVMH Group.

‘The art of fusion’ is more than just a slogan for the watch manufacturer – it’s a credo

The seeds of the ‘fusion’ concept – the underlying motto of the luxury Swiss watch brand – were planted soon after the company was established. It was in 2004 that ‘The art of fusion’ was adopted as the brand’s philosophy by Biver – the current chairman and president of LVMH Group’s watch division – and Ricardo Guadalupe, the current Hublot CEO.

Hublot has been truly revitalising the art of watchmaking since its inception. Evidently, ‘The art of fusion’ is more than just a slogan for the watch manufacturer. It’s a credo. A testament to this is how Crocco began his entrepreneurial stint with the launch of a watch that featured the first natural rubber strap in the history of watchmaking. It went on to become a commercial success with impressive sales in its first year and firmly solidified Hublot’s brand DNA for many years to come.

Despite being an infant among centuries-old stalwarts, Hublot has developed into a pioneering force in the watchmaking industry

Being the first watch brand to combine gold with natural rubber, Hublot has been carrying the baton for promoting creativity and constant innovation. Despite being an infant among centuries-old stalwarts, Hublot has developed into a pioneering force in the watchmaking industry, which can be attributed to the fact that both Biver and Guadalupe regard ‘The art of fusion’ motto as the heart of the brand. It is the main principle that propels the company’s actions, innovations, developments and partnerships, and blends tradition and innovation. Revelling in the audacious spirit of its motto, Hublot organised an ‘Art of fusion’ world tour last year. The tour revealed fascinating stories about the contemporary alchemist’s design sensibilities, horological know-how and game-changing materials.

Hublot’s Metallurgy And Materials Department – Where The Magic Happens

As a laboratory of ideas, the Hublot Research and Development department is generating horological and micromechanical refinements

“If you want something unique and different, you have to create it yourself,” says Sébastien Recalcati, Hublot’s materials science engineer.

One of the biggest contributing factors behind Hublot’s success story are the specialists from its own Metallurgy and Materials department in Geneva. Formed in collaboration with EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne), this department at Hublot is considered as one of the leading technical institutions in Switzerland. What sets it apart is its capability to perform high-quality research with the research and development team and develop avant-garde methods and formulating prototypes to produce its own state-of-the-art materials. As a laboratory of ideas, the Hublot Research and Development department is generating horological and micromechanical refinements.

In order to evolve the methods of production and build the theoretical material brick by brick, the department has been fully equipped with its own foundry with the apparatus needed to create alloys from scratch and perform complex processes like refractory ceramic sintering and high-pressure metal casting. The metallurgy department of Hublot is known to be capable of producing far more than just technologically advanced gold alloys. Hence it goes without saying that the engineers working with Hublot have a strongly influential role in the actualisation of new concepts for materials as well as perfecting the existing ones. Such tenacious efforts towards making divinely unique creations and bridging the past with the future bring this watchmaking company at the forefront of innovation.

What Makes Hublot A Pioneering Horological Force

In the past, Hublot has created its own patented alloys such as Hublonium (magnesium and aluminium), King Gold (gold and platinum), Texalium and Osmium

“We place great value in our innovative technological manufacturing processes,” – Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO, Hublot

Hublot is a repository of fascinating stories when it comes to the immaculate creation of its timepieces. On an exploratory study of their techniques, one realises that the archetype of the Hublot philosophy is erected on its undying desire to push the manufacturing capabilities and augment the core of its production process. In the past, Hublot has created its own patented alloys such as Hublonium (magnesium and aluminium), King Gold (gold and platinum), Texalium and Osmium.

Its most recent pathbreaking origination is Magic Gold, which is a fusion between pure gold and boron carbide (ceramic). As the name suggests, this material contains magical properties. A by-product of two years of top-notch scientists and engineers toiling in the laboratory, Magic Gold is the first scratch-resistant gold, making it the hardest variety in the world. Unique and proprietary to Hublot, a magic gold watch is considered to be very rare. Produced at Hublot’s hi-tech foundry in Nyon, Switzerland, the beauty of Magic Gold can be admired in the Big Bang Meca-10 Full Magic Gold, Unico Magic Gold, Big Bang Ferrari Unico Magic Gold and several other striking timepieces.

We list down some of the most popular Hublot gold watches in rose gold, and in combinations of rose gold with steel, titanium, or ceramic.
