The very first Movado Group Summit showcased some spectacular timepieces that are sure to shine this year – here’s the lowdown
May We Recommend
In the picturesque town of Davos in Switzerland, the Movado Group welcomed retail partners from all over the world to join in on their very first Movado Group Summit, which took place from March 17–20.
Amidst the snow, showcasing the latest products from their 2018 collections were the 10 Movado Group brands, including Hugo Boss, and of course, Movado. It was interesting to see how a brand can take its own story forward, by making significant changes, yet retaining the essence of what they’ve always stood for. This was certainly true for Movado, and to an extent, for Hugo Boss as well. Take a look at what we should expect from these brands in the year ahead.
Movado’s Museum Dot Gets A New Home
The Museum dot is probably one of the most distinct watch elements out there. Needless to say, it can be challenging for a brand to innovate with the design whilst retaining a familiar look when it is a single dot that we’re talking about. They definitely baffled us with the Edge series, which marked a significant departure with its added dimensions. However, the Edge will not be seen in any new editions this year. Instead, it seems like Movado has decided that if it isn’t broken, why try to fix it! And that’s exactly why the new Museum Classic series looks like such a winner. The minimalist look of the range is maintained while giving it a sleek new body. The Museum Classic now comes in a more streamlined case, which is now also in black PVD-treated steel, with a beautiful, textured brown strap. This design also perfectly translates to a Sport edition with added depth in the dial design and hour markers. Quirky orange accents serve as minute markers on the rim of the dial.
The black PVD treatment is also seen in the new Ultra Slim’s case and bracelet that imparts an all-black splendour. However, there isn’t only black this time. Movado throws in some colour with their new Esperanza watches for ladies with green mother-of-pearl dials and structured metal bracelets. Mother-of-pearl in colour is also seen in other versions of the new Museum Classic. And of course, the latest edition of the Movado Series 800 sport watches also have infusions of green and blue. And from what we hear, there’s going to be more colour in store for us from Movado going forward. Even minimalism can have a spectrum!
Hugo Boss Sharpens Its Game
Hugo Boss has long been a forerunner in the popular fashion brands category and has now carved a niche for itself in the watch world as well. With its crisp design, it appeals to watch enthusiasts who crave for something trendy yet sophisticated. This year, Boss has reinforced that very idea by keeping things sharp with the new editions of its various favourites, while also bringing in some interesting new variations. The new Boss Trophy Sport chronograph watch could easily pass for a higher-end sports timepiece, while the new Boss Grand Prix Casual offers a range of new dials in coffee and rich blue hues.
On the other hand, the monotone grey PVD Boss Attitude Casual could be just what you need as your versatile timepiece. But what’s particularly impressive is the Boss William Classic, now with a white enamel dial, which just elevates the visual impact, especially with black Roman numerals and gold-plated hands. With all of this, it’s safe to say that Boss is going to attract a lot more attention in the year ahead.
