The TAG Heuer S.A. is a Swiss manufacturing company that designs, manufactures, and markets watches and other fashion accessories. Founded by Edouard Heuer, in 1860, the company was known as Urhenmanufaktur Heuer AG. It was sold to Techniques d’ Avant Grade in 1985, and renamed it as TAG Heuer. In 1999, TAG Heuer was taken over by French Luxury goods conglomerate LVMH. The company procured its first patent in the year 1882, and in 1887 for the ‘oscillating pinion,' which is still used by major makers of mechanical chronographs. Based at Neuchatel, in Switzerland, the company is of a wholly owned subsidiary type. The TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500M Cal 5 presents before you the most stunning range of collections by the company.
The TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500M Cal 5 WAK2110.BA0830 has a magnificent appeal. Housed in a black, high-tech ceramic case of 41 millimetres, the watch has a look that is sure to celebrate the essence of masculinity. The round black dial has a horizontal streak effect, and elongated white hour’s hands, that have been polished with luminescent markers for better visibility in the dark as well as under water. A unidirectional turning, black ceramic bezel is engraved upon with minutes’ markings. The dial is protected by a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, making the watch more durable. It also has a screw-in case back with diver decorations. Owning to the smooth finishing of the stainless steel bracelet, the watch has a robust and sporty look.
The watch is water resistant up to 500 metres under water, which means it can stay safely fastened to your wrist even while you go swimming, snorkelling or sailing. Powered with automatic movement, the watch keeps time with undisputable accuracy. A date display window is present at 3 o' clock to help you keep a note of the day.
Founded as Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG by Edouard Heuer in 1860, the brand was renamed as TAG Heuer in 1985 when Techniques d’Avant Garde bought it. It was sold to LVMH, a French luxury goods conglomerate, in 1999. Edouard Hueur’s first chronograph was patented in 1882 and he invented an oscillating pinion in 1887, which is used till now by several principal watchmakers.
The Aquaracer collection was launched in 1982, as a tribute to TAG Hueur’s proficiency in reliable watchmaking. This collection has been especially designed and meticulously tested for professional divers and underwater workers. The timepieces in this collection can easily withstand the most rigorous sailing conditions. They feature a sporty and refined design, making them ideal for everyday use as well. All the watches feature 6 signature studs on the unidirectional rotating bezel for an easy grip. Most of the timepieces come in fine brushed and polished stainless steel, while some feature an 18 carat yellow gold and red gold ring on the bezel and gold plating on the hour markers and indexes. They are presented in an “H-shaped” bracelet with a folding clasp at the end for a secure fit.
The new Aquaracer Lady launched in 2014 retains the classic features of the Aquaracer watches but also features ultra-feminine and luxury finishes. The watches come in 27 mm and 32 mm cases with white mother of pearl, black, and silver dials ensconced inside. Some of the models showcase 11 Top Wesselton Diamonds on the dial along with 30 larger diamonds encrusted on the bezel.
The Aquaracer 500M is the most popular model of this collection and celebrates the brand’s partnership with Oracle Team USA in the 34th America’s Cup.

This watch has some essential functionality in terms of date and a tachymeter, and an anti-reflective coating on the dial, which makes it easier to observe the time (as reflection from external light sources is minimized). It symbolizes The 500m water resistance makes this watch ideal for diving. The radium dial is quite useful for observing the time in low light, including under water. A great all-purpose watch for wearing at home, at office, or outdoors.

I got this black version, but there are other colour combinations. Personally, I need the date complication in my watches and I love how TAG made it blend in perfectly with the dial (oh and this 500M does not have a cyclops on top of date, which makes it much more clear to look). At 41mm covered with scratch resistant sapphire crystal the dial gives the most stunning finish of lustre effect. The hour markers stand out brilliantly as they are pressed on the surface of dial. The seconds hand sweeps remarkably smooth and looks more so over better with a chrome finish on it as well as the borders of the hour markers, minutes and hour hand. The hands have a sword like finish with diamond cut look on edges making it look very sleek and futuristic. The Hands and Hour markers have a high treatment of luminescence, which turns dazzling emerald green in the dark.
I really like what TAG did with the design. The last 500m Aquaracer had a much thicker and rubber bezel. This new one looks vividly lean with respect to the rest of the face. I like how the numbers and markings on the bezel are not printed on, but are actually stamped in the ceramic. Yes! It’s got a beautiful Ceramic (4% more scratch resistant than steel) dial with unidirectional motion of120 clicks. The clicks feel solid and secure. The rim of the bezel reminds me of Rolex Submariner as they have the typical cut on rims, TAG has however has gone ahead and modified it with alternated gloss and matt finish square steel blocks.
The beauty of this TAG is the flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on it. I really like the flatness and sleekness of this watch as compared to other gigantic diver’s watches.
Case and Crown
The case is finished with polished steel on the front, while the sides carry a high chrome effect. On the left, at 10 O’clock you can see the helium escape valve. The value has also been given a high chrome look which looks splendid. On the right, we have the screw down crown with the TAG Heuer logo on it. It unscrews smoothly, but it is trickier screwing it back down. I do like the shape of the crown itself and it’s easy to grip. Overall, the case is grand.
The bracelet continues its polished steel look from the dial and gives the look of extreme masculine. The bracelet in itself is very lean; the great thing about the bracelet is that it carries a high gloss finish on the sides whereas the front is polished matt finish steel.
It uses the workhorse Calibre 5 (TAG’s in house movement) movement giving it a heartbeat of 28,800BPH. It has the typical hack and wind capabilities of this movement. However a minor drawback for some might be the case back as it’s covered and sealed with a diver’s helmet logo on it. As per my experience the movement is precise to 5/-2 seconds per day, which is ‘PRECISE’ in a word!
Overall, I really like this watch, and it’s still growing on me. I think this newer model is more of a dress diver because it is more subdued, which is not a bad thing at all. I wouldn’t mind wearing this one with a suit because of how clean and classy it looks. This review turned out longer than I planned, but I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading.
